Re: Southeastern Mennonite Conference
I was searching the forum and found this post. In today's schismatic church culture, and individualistic consumer approach to churches...I don't think I know a single person who goes to the church their grandparents were raised in. And that includes large and substantial portions of my extended fam...

Re: Southeastern Mennonite Conference
Our church is currently having revival meetings with a speaker from Southeastern Mennonite Conference. I was surprised by a few things I learned about them that I didn't know. For some reason I had pictured them as a larger group than they actually are. According to GAMEO there were 16 churches in ...

Re: Should backyard eggs be washed before storage and/or use, and why?
Eggs have a certain shelf-life without being refrigerated. What I can't understand is why not washing them would extend that shelf life, which is what some people claim. Anecdotally, I can tell you that we don't wash our eggs and often don't refrigerate them and we have never gotten sick or had spo...

Re: Should backyard eggs be washed before storage and/or use, and why?
My grandmother never washed them, she didn't refridgerate either. They sat out in the chicken coop in a gallon coffee tin straight through the Georgia summer. When she needed some, she walked out and brought them in. Eggs have a certain shelf-life without being refrigerated. What I can't understand...

Yes. This is America, not Europe. I'm curious about what difference you see between America and Europe Is their climate or distribution system that different? Are they willing to accept a greater risk of contamination? Or are you seeing it as a cultural practice that doesn't really need a reason?

Re: covering the grave
You are talking about which practice of barnhart - Grandchildren covering the grave; Or, covering the feet first? Family covering the grave. Wesleyb is a much better source as he grew up there, my experience is limited to my grandfather's funeral. Actually, in your grandfather’s case the practice c...

Re: covering the grave
The family, mostly grandchildren, covered my grandfathers grave in Virginia and my other grandfather in Georgia. I just assumed this is normal. I laughed a little to myself doing it because I remembered him saying once in jest that he wanted his feet covered first so he could look out as long as po...

Re: The Anabaptist perception on water pistols, supersoakers, airsoft.....
That's something we've struggled with a bit too. I think we handle it about the same as my parents did. We were allowed to have water guns and squirt each other, but we would have been not allowed, or at least strongly discouraged from, playing war, pretending to die, etc.

Re: How often does your fellowship or church meet for worship?
So what are the reasons for why moderate-conservatives and progressive-conservatives don't do this anymore? 1. They enjoy podcasts and recorded messages more than a week of meetings by one man? 2. The commitment to attend a full week of meetings is not there anymore? 3. Ministry and outreach trump ...
