Re: Revival Meetings in Evangelical/Mainline Anabaptist

What actually is EPMC's conference structure? I have a hard time understanding how it is put together. Officially there are 2 -3 bishops per district, but a look through the directory says in the US and Canada one district has 2, five have 3, one has 4, and one has 5. Some of the higher numbers are...

Re: Throwback Thursday.... CB radios!

FCC regulations prohibit using VHF band radios for land use. They are restricted for maritime use and for ship-to-shore communications. So you can technically use VHF on land but only to communicate to ships. Businesses in fishing ports like groceries will have VHF radios and fishermen will call in...

Re: Throwback Thursday.... CB radios!

The combining crews I used to work on back when I was young all used marine VHF radios in their combines and trucks to communicate. Which are more powerful and better than CBs but not technically legal to use for land purposes. But in the middle of Kansas and Nebraska, who's going to know or pay at...

Re: HPV and Cancer link

Accepting state aid like Medicaid is strictly avoided, to the level the local health department can’t even give away car seats - they have to put price tags of a few dollars on them and then Amish people are happy to buy what they think is a yard sale. Are car seats in buggies even a thing? They wa...

Re: Revival Meetings in Evangelical/Mainline Anabaptist

I often appreciate what you say, Josh, and do agree with your first paragraph. I have to disagree with a good part of your second paragraph. The first sentence describes very few individuals I have met in UC circles, and does not describe what I find to be the group consciousness. (It does describe...

Re: Revival Meetings in Evangelical/Mainline Anabaptist

I think the defense of weeklong revival meetings by ultra-conservative groups is a case of tradition over reason. The sort of conversion experience does not seem Anabaptist to me, and the "bulk conversions" speak of some amount of expectation rather than conviction. I somewhat agree, but ...

Re: May 11 2024 Freedom of Religion in the U.S.

I specifically said that is what I would do. I did not say that is what most conservatives would do. Soloist and Josh said most conservatives don't have insurance, not that most of them refuse free employer provided coverage. So is it your claim that Conservative Anabaptists who refuse insurance on...

Re: May 11 2024 Freedom of Religion in the U.S.

For example, on the HPV thread we are informed that most CAs will refuse free employer-provided health insurance that is a benefit potentially worth many hundreds of thousands of dollars. Who told you that one? I certainly didn't. Is this you? I would waive coverage. I have a statement on file with...
