Can someone fill me in on the history of this group, who they split off of, why they split off, and what they are like? I heard they are mostly former beachys?

Re: Keeping the Church Pure
I draw the line at any continual sin that won't be repented of, stopped, carried on purposely without struggle.. etc. Examples: Sin struggles like pornography - a growing problem, so long as it is condemned by the "user", worked on, battled against, and the struggle is real... (this inclu...

Keeping the Church Pure
So, how important is it? Do you kick out anyone with a porn problem? Or do you go so far as to accept divorce and remarriage couples into membership because they believe that they are not committing adultery because of their interpretation of scripture, and that's between them and God? Some of this ...

Re: What is Church Membership?
I was talking to someone once who said their church doesn't have church membership - because "that's a control thing." When I asked him who makes decisions in the church, he said they have "committed brothers." The more I asked him to describe committed brothers, the more it sou...

Re: Culture, has it become a burden and stumbling block.
Ernie's article had some of the best arguments for standards that I have ever seen, and I don't feel it is wrong to have a standard. However my concerns with standards go something like this. 1. They often seem to be motivated out of a desire to protect one's own congregation, when I wonder if we mi...

So your Ernest Eby, I was at a guy's camp you hosted back in 2010, in Arkansas. Good memories.Ernie wrote:Here are most of my thoughts on churches and standards.

Re: Culture, has it become a burden and stumbling block.
My line of thought in regards to the op has to do with exploring if there is any benefit to keeping standards, considering how hard it makes it for people wanting to be kingdom minded to join their local anabaptist congregation.

Re: Culture, has it become a burden and stumbling block.
So, I grew up Beachy, and am still anabaptist in the sense that I don't agree with the Evangelicals enough to join. Here's a question, if Amy is very shallow, and she is living a proper prim modest Mennonite life because her bishop has all her standards laid out for her and he is meaner than God is ...
