Broken promises .. (crickets)

Post by temporal1 »

Politicians make, and, break promises. :-|
This thread is a place to "make note" of some of these, not to thoroughly investigate each one.

This thread is NOT about the present admin, not yet 2 weeks underway. So, please. not that.

Here are 2 broken promises that particularly (bug me.)
George W's promises to "rebuild Iraq" into a wonderful new country -
2002

crickets

Obama stated, early in his first term, that cleaning up vast Medicare fraud would substantially fund obamacare. (this was likely stated before the word, "obamacare" was coined.)

crickets

fyi: i'm trying to keep my post count down.
i'll be reading. 8-)

Obama said he'd close Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba. He didn't. I'm aware that he faced significant opposition.

good example.
"significant opposition" can be taken for granted in politics, so, i'd prefer no excuse-making, blaming others. that gets nowhere fast. it results in nothing more than treading water, if that.

this thread is about identifying broken promises. not laying blame on others.

later:
on the other hand, it now appears others are not going to read/respect the OP.
so, feel free to post as you please .. .. i may revisit tomorrow.

if i could, i would delete this thread.
i'm not going to bother admin-mods to request it.

I couldn't find that quote in the article, and I don't remember him saying that. Can you point me to his original statement? I do think that he said he would get tougher on fraud. The article says his measures did get tougher on fraud, but it's still a rampant problem, and these measures helped only some. The article did not say that eliminating Medicare fraud was a major part of how Obamacare was supposed to be funded. That's the part I don't remember him saying.

FWIW, I think we're still pretty much where we were the day after Obamacare was passed. If we want to provide this kind of benefit (and Trump and the Republicans say they do), we need the government to work together to figure out how to make it work well. It will need cost saving measures. Maybe we can call it Trumpcare now.

One of the positive things Trump has said is that he thinks the government needs to negotiate lower prices for drugs and services. If he can do that, it would be a very good thing. The Republicans opposed that under Obama, they may be more open to it now. Most of the time, the same idea sounds a lot better when it comes from your own party.

Is it biblical? Is it Christlike? Is it loving? Is it true? How can I find out?

Here's a list of Obama's promises and the degree to which he fulfilled them:

I suspect it's fairly accurate.
