ipad mini not charging.
it's plugged in, it now has a black screen with a battery icon, reading low/red line.
no other function.
i changed for a new cable and plug-in, ipad brand name; no change, not charging.
the wall outlet is working for a lamp. i've been using that wall outlet all along.
(i've had to replace cables before, i keep an extra on hand. off-brands have not worked.)
i googled.
one suggestion was to take a toothpick to clean lint from the .. connection port.
no change. no lint detected.
other reports seem to suggest the ipad is probably not dead, it's a matter of trouble shooting.
ideas?

Re: ipad mini not charging
this ipad is close to 3 years old.
i once read a disgruntled customer write he had to get a new ipad every 2 years.
2 years, 3 years, is not ok with me.
i hope to find a fix.

Re: ipad mini not charging
I've never worked with an iPad. But in a cell phone, one of my first options usually is to pull the battery to force a complete restart. If you have a friend with one, try his battery in your's.temporal1 wrote:ipad mini not charging.

But I know that Apple solders in their batteries in some cases. I thought they did that in all their newer iPhones, etc. But I discovered that the battery in my iPhone 6+ is replaceable. You have to remove some screws, but its perfectly doable. My iPhone was dead and I took it to a local repair place. She pulled the battery, and plugged in a new one. Worked perfect. Plugged mine back in. Worked perfect. Cost? No charge. Guess where I go for repairs....
PS: If it's the battery and its soldered in, you're better off looking for a good deal locally for a new one.

Re: ipad mini not charging
In my experience with iphones the charging hole gets worn out and that's usually when I get a new one (if I have a free upgrade available of course). Try unplugging it and flip the plug 180 degrees and try it that way. Sometimes that works for me.

Re: ipad mini not charging
thank you.
looks like i'm going to have to visit Best Buy, where i purchased.
they helped me with another problem once, without charging. one never knows.
i can't recall the problem, but, that fix required an uninstall-new install, and it worked.
it "looked" simple-enough! - i would have never thought of it on my own.
i guess it must be a good sign that the battery icon with red line is showing (?)
if truly dead, it would be all-black/no life, at all?
not sure when, watching weather. right-this-moment would be ideal, but, can't make that happen.
weather warnings for later today.
it's cold, people are adjusting to winter driving, lots of cars in ditches.
december is usually a hazardous time of year for that.

Re: ipad mini not charging
Take the charging cord with you when you go.
My experience with such issues:
-The charging cord develops internal wire breakage.
-The battery stops recharging or holding a charge because it's time to replace it.
Hope it's an easy fix for you.

Re: ipad mini not charging
it's now 100% charged and functioning.
went back after a time. what? - 100% charged.
i dont often remove the plug.
hopefully, that will extend its lifespan.
probably helps keep lint out, too.
later, i'll retry the old wire+plug. just to check in case they are ok, too.
glad i did not jump in the car!
thank you all again.
Haystack, when i read this, i went back and (again) reversed the plug-in. no immediate change.Haystack wrote:In my experience with iphones the charging hole gets worn out and that's usually when I get a new one (if I have a free upgrade available of course).
