Documents of Brotherly Love: Dutch Mennonite Aid to Swiss Anabaptist 1650-1784
Presented by Edsel Burdge, Research Associate at the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies
Between the years 1650-1784, the Dutch Mennonite Committee for Foreign Needs aided their co-religionists in Switzerland and the Palatinate as they weathered persecution, economic hardship, and migration to different parts of Europe and North America. The Committee’s papers are now housed in the Amsterdam City Archives. Almost 25 years ago, a committee of Amish and Mennonites initiated a project to have these documents transcribed, translated, and published. The project is nearing completion with the anticipated publication of the 3rd and last volume, covering the years 1712-1784. This presentation will describe the project and will highlight several themes that emerge from the documents.
This is a FREE program, but you must register using this link. You will receive an email with a link to use to join the Zoom call. This program will be recorded and put on our YouTube page to view at your leisure along with past Ephrata Academy presentations.
