Francis's miscellaneous history thread

Post by francis »

Hope this is ok to post here. I thought that given what I've found on the internet, I'd make a thread to post documents I've found (nothing copyrighted, don't worry!) about Anabaptist history. I'm currently taking several classes on religious history and I come across these documents a lot and thought I might share (only if you are all ok with me posting it here though!)
Of course, feel free to correct anything.
This is what I've collected so far
Timeline (from beachyam.org, aka Cory Anderson) http://www.beachyam.org/librarybooks/fi ... meline.pdf
Timeline (slightly different, arrows everywhere) from plainnews.org http://plainnews.org/wp-content/uploads ... 2014.4.pdf
Congregations of Anabaptists in the US South (Cory Anderson) http://www.beachyam.org/librarybooks/An ... fusion.pdf
General Anabaptist theology (Christian Light Publications) https://www.clp.org/documents/6598/orig ... _Guide.pdf

Most or all of this drama, humiliation, wasted taxpayer money could be spared -
with even modest attempt at presenting balanced facts from the start.

Thanks for posting these things, Francis.

Of course people are OK with you posting here, I don't think there's any question of that. And there are plenty of people who are interested in this kind of history.

Is it biblical? Is it Christlike? Is it loving? Is it true? How can I find out?

What do you mean? (I think I meant to say "history" not "theology" whoops)

The third link is messed up. I think you meant to link to http://www.beachyam.org/librarybooks/An ... fusion.pdf. Maybe one of the mods could fix it.

I've attached a simplified "family tree" from Stephen Scott's An Introduction to Old Order and Conservative Mennonite Groups as well as another short booklet with its own timeline from mennoniteeducation.org

I like these last graphs - let me turn them sideways.

Are some of these graphs more accurate than others?

(Bootstrap, I'm not quoting you because of the large images)
I'm not sure which ones are more accurate, I suppose I'm more inclined to trust things written in a book rather than online, but I'm not super knowledgable. The two that you rotated (thanks, by the way,) seem to be the easiest to read as they don't have all those crossing lines.

I went on thearda.com (association of religious data archives) and found another supposed mennonite "family tree"
There's also some interesting membership info here (same source, nothing specific) http://www.thearda.com/denoms/families/F_95.asp

Here are some scans from Cory Anderson's "The Amish Mennonites of North America" which have similar but not identical diagrams to those listed above.
