1984 / Foreigner / “I Want to Know What Love is”

Foreigner lead singer Lou Gramm sang lead vocals on the song.
The song also features backing vocals from the New Jersey Mass Choir affiliated with the Gospel Music Workshop of America.
There are also backing vocals from Dreamgirls star Jennifer Holliday, and keyboard work by Thompson Twins frontman Tom Bailey.
The choir brings so much to this strong song. ^^^

Ty Smith / Modern Renaissance Man

i’m just beginning to become familiar with Ty Smith, i first noticed several of his opinion videos, i didn’t realize he did MUSIC reaction videos! i appreciate his pov as a Christian, husband, father; he encourages good choices. He doesn’t deny or hide his faith.

i enjoy music reaction/analysis videos, they’re fun.

Ty Smith lives near me, maybe an hour away. Maybe i’ll meet him one day.

At the end of this video, he “goes exactly where this song” takes me: God is Love. ✝️
i think the choir reaches for God. They take a basically secular song and use it to reach for God.

All of life can be just like that. When eyes are open.

Fathers’ Day .. my father passed in June 1996.

Another reaction (and analysis) tape.
There are a number on this unlikely duet/performance.

This voice teacher’s reaction, along with his tecnical understanding, speaks to me. He’s a gifted man.

i’m a little surprised it hasn’t disappeared via cancel culture.

i’m not sure my father would have liked this performance.
Not sure. He could surprise me!

They demonstrated how 2 very different men could work together with mutual respect toward a common goal.

TRYBALS / Tribal People React to Pentatonix Hallelujah / -11min

Hard to imagine they don’t have a translation for the words. ^^
This may be one of the first reaction videos i ever viewed. i’ve watched several times.
Their intro/reaction to the idea of acapella, alone, is fascinating.

2023 NEW YEAR’S DAY

1968 / "Oh Happy Day" (Original)(1968) Edwin Hawkins & Northern California State Youth Choir

When this was recorded, i was a young girl, the military draft was active, Vietnam was raging.
There are better quality recordings, but the enthusiasm of this young choir, esp at the chorus, touches me deeply.
i can imagine the choir director and choir as i listen. a beautiful thing. the vitality!

A good song to begin this year which promises to be difficult.
A reminder, in 2023 as much as in 1968, our hope is not in the secular world. O Happy Day.

“I was on a plane to Viet Nam in 1970 and this song was playing on the seat intercom. I listened to it over and over.
Never did get sick of it and don't figure I ever will.“
Somber memories. Chilling memories.
