Not just alive, but he was in your neighborhood recently (though he didn't perform either of the referenced pieces).

2022 Tour Schedule
Looks like you missed your chance to hear Gordon Lightfoot. He died this week.

i hadn’t heard this song in years, i think it’s from 1978.

Little River Band / Reminiscing

Reminiscing / Lyrics

Friday night, it was late, I was walking you home
We got down to the gate and I was dreaming of the night
Would it turn out right
How to tell you girl
I want to build my world around you
Tell you that it's true
I want to make you understand I'm talkin' about a lifetime plan
That's the way it began, we were hand in hand
Glenn Miller's Band was better than before
We yelled and screamed for more
And the Porter tunes (Night and Day)
Made us dance across the room
It ended all too soon
And on the way back home I promised you'd never be alone
Hurry, don't be late, I can hardly wait
I said to myself when we're old
We'll go dancing in the dark
Walking through the park and reminiscing
Friday night, it was late, I was walking you home
We got down to the gate and I was dreaming of the night
Would it turn out right
Now as the years roll on
Each time we hear our favorite song
The memories come along
Older times we're missing
Spending the hours reminiscing
Hurry, don't be late, I can hardly wait
I said to myself when we're old
We'll go dancing in the dark
Walking through the park and reminiscing

Bright+upbeat. A trumpet* can be so versatile.
Being young used to be delightful. i’m not sure why so many want to steal all that away.
.. The horn that comes in near the end of the track is a *flugelhorn played by the Australian musician Bob Venier.

Fil / Wings of Pegasus (music analysis)

i’m not a particular fan of any of these 3 singers, it’s the technical analysis here that most intrigues me.
As Fil describes, this was recorded before autotune (“you just had to be good”).

“THIS is what happens when 3 legends COMBINE! What a 'TRIO'!”

The Sweetest Gift / Lyrics

One day a mother
Come to a prison
To see an 'erring
But precious son
She told the warden
How much she loved him
It did not matter
What he had done
She did not bring to him
(Bring to him)
Parole or pardon
(Pardon free)
She brought no silver
(Brought no gold)
No pomp nor style
(Him to see)
It was a halo
(Halo bright)
Sent down from heaven
(Heaven's light)
The sweetest gift
(A mother's smile)
Her boy had wandered
Far from the far side
Though she had pleaded
With him each night
But not a word did
She ever utter
That told her heartaches
Her smile was bright
She did not bring to him
(Bring to him)
Parole or pardon
(Pardon free)
She brought no silver
(Brought no gold)
No pomp nor style
(Him to see)
It was a halo
(Halo bright)
Sent down from heaven
(Heaven's light)
The sweetest gift
(A mother's smile)
She left a smile
You can remember
She's gone to heaven
From heartache's free
Them bars around you
Will never change her
He was her baby
An error will be
She did not bring to him
(Bring to him)
Parole or pardon
(Pardon free)
She brought no silver
(Brought no gold)
No pomp nor style
(Him to see)
It was a halo
(Halo bright)
Sent down from heaven
(Heaven's light)
The sweetest gift
(A mother's smile)
It was a halo bright
Sent down from heaven's light
The sweetest gift
A mother's smile

^^ok. this comment is funny.

This will not alter my music preferences or interest.
Are there any teens/children anywhere who are not exposed to “all this?” A deliberate assault on the human senses.

In former times, teeny-boppers were TEENS. Without auto-tune. Or formula music.
Now teens are given an IV-drip of matronly businesswomen stuffed into spandex+rhinestones, via billionaires. $$$

The commercial industry ignores the fact that, for young teens, 30 is OLD. And repulsive. Even 25. i remember.

I do think it is funny to see this song doing so well on iTunes. And I think it’s a funny collaboration.

I will say that the song itself may be guilty of the thing that it is fighting back against. Specifically, the repeating line of “I don’t care if I offend you”. This isn’t the spirit of the values that they should seem to want this country to operate in. That line seems like something that would be in any rebellious song, a line that has been used against good values, a spirit that the very people he is pushing against use.

Also, “what would Ben do” is a funny line, taken off “what would Jesus do”, which is an accurate reflection of this country. We don’t ask what Jesus would do anymore, instead we ask what our popular celebrity influencers would do. This too is indicative of a decline in moral clarity of this country. Ben shouldn’t be followed, Jesus should be.

Agreed, and you could probably continue.

i’m not much affected by this “music,” it’s pretty easy to avoid (for me)!
i’m aware of its popularity, and even “normalcy” amongst youth, my grdaughter is 16, in public school .. she has such inborn good taste, modesty, discernment, i don’t overly worry about her - BUT - all these young ones are swimming in these waters .. it’s not ok.

they don’t have the life experience to judge what a price they’re paying.
that’s why they have parents, grandparents, and, supposedly, teachers .. so many teachers attempt to “out-cool” the teens .. i noticed this beginning when i was in high school decades ago. i didn’t know what to make of it then, i had no perspective, looking back, yes, the “hep” teachers who knew all the slang, swag, etc. almost a weird competition with students.

now i see it in elementary school, with principals all-in. the “hep” god leads.

children and teens need adults. in homes, churches, and school.

but, the literally pornographic lyrics, WITH physical animations!
displayed by matronly women who should know better and model better.

it shows what people will do for the almighty dollar. and, how they won’t let go of that CASH COW, once they get it.
some (like Madonna) are approaching geriatric age.

spandex encourages really bad decisions. “just because you can” get into that costume, doesn’t mean you should.
please, no.

this has so little to do with children+teens.
to repeat, children+teens think of people in their 20-30’s as over the hill. Yet, look what “the industry” throws at them.

my older sibs were 10-12 years older. they were in a different world. i thought of them as adults when they were 16-17+.
i was kind of confused when my mother assured me they weren’t! lol

i remember well enough to not accept what hollywood moguls are selling. for them, it’s about the $$$.

Roots.
It’s well to know, numbers of pop stars have classical music training.

Humans are unique in how slowly we grow+mature. God’s design.

Children+teens are not “small adults.”
Treating them as such can be silently traumatizing, the price often comes due later in life.
They are capable in so many ways. Adults are best to pray for wisdom. For each child, What is enough? What is too much?

Twoset makes me feel insecure about my violin playing and I don't even play violin

✏️ @reepicheepsfriend WROTE:
Anyone who is here to complain that they criticized Ben's playing totally missed the point. They are giving him free advice.
The world of classical performance revolves around constructive criticism and advice; to anyone who has been trained this way, it is normal.

Ben even said on his twitter account that he agreed with them.
So you guys can relax because they are actually doing him a favor and providing something for free that most people have to pay for.

✏️ @richardcarr7702 WROTE:
You two are professionals, critiquing an amateur.
Would have been easy to smash down, yet you were classy, respectful, helpful.
Nicely done!
