The soup & sandwich thread

Post by steve-in-kville »

This place needs a diversion.

List your favorite soup and sandwich combos. Either from your childhood or as an adult.

When I was in school, a popular lunch menu was peanut butter & marshmallow sandwiches with chicken soup. Grilled cheese and tomato soup is another favorite at our house.

Love tomato soup and grilled cheese.
Another favorite is pasta e fagioli that I make with cornbread- sweet corn bread.
Or chicken noodle with blueberry or Irish soda bread muffins
Love soup.
Our school never did peanut butter and marshmallow sandwiches. Used to like them too sweet now. :)

Wife: I like grilled cheese sandwiches, but I hate tomato soup. So my favorite soup would probably be cheddar broccoli soup with ham or cheeseburger chowder or clam chowder

We ate soups often in our house when I was young as they are economical and nutritious. The main soup fare was:
-Lentil and carrot soup
-Potato and parsnip soup
-Cock-a-leekie soup
-Oxtail soup
-Split pea soup

One of my favorite American soups of late is clam chowder. Nicely paired with a grilled cheese and onion sandwich. :D

Sweet Bologna with mayo and a slice of American cheese, on toast. Add my homemade canned vegetable soup or canned chili. I love my trusty pressure canner.

Can't beat a basic bologna sandwich. Add some pickles on the sided and that's good eating.

My wife makes chicken corn noodle soup, or sometimes uses rice instead of noodles.

Or add chips with the sandwich. Hubby hates pickles.

The Brethren Lovefeast meal: simple rice soup with bread and butter, with pulled beef, folded over to make a sandwich. Pepper it up good. I was able to replicate the recipe at home a few years ago.

At some point I want to try one of Elvis Presley’s favourite sandwiches, but first I need to spend a few years losing weight and improving my heart health so my system will be able to handle the shock.

I had to look that up. That's quite the sandwich!
