"My Bad" - an apology?

"My Bad" - an apology?

Post by Neto »

Do you consider just saying "My bad" as an apology?

(Doesn't feel like one to me, so just wondering what others think.)

I agree- it's feels like a way to say - Well, I wasn't quite right- but not say it and definitely not say you were sorry.

That phrase annoys me for some reason. But I agree with QL, it's kinda like admitting you made a mistake but you're really not sorry.

Like a deflection of responsibility?

It's taking responsibility, so that is good. It does not indicate sorrow for what one has done, so for something of significance, I find it insufficient.

It's all about context. Works for volleyball games. Not so much for causing real harm.

I agree; minor mistakes it is adequate though slang usage. It is woefully inadequate as an apology for personal harm of any form.

I consider "my bad" as an admittance to making a mistake. but not an apology. In saying "my bad" it should be followed by a sincere apology, depending the situation. If it is a game such as volley ball, no apology would be needed, unless you accidentally kick someone on the head.

“My bad” is said when you make a mistake that harms someone else but you had no intention of doing so.
