Christian Fads

Post by Ernie »

This is a thread to list Christian Fads.
I'm particularly looking for fads that were supposedly a break through into deeper spirituality or an indicator of Spirit filledness and were popularized by certain personalities or movements.
If you can put a link to the fad, that would be great. name of fad

Here are some to get you started.
Mourners Bench
WWJD

The old woodcutter spoke again. “It is impossible to talk with you. You always draw conclusions. Life is so vast, yet you judge all of life with one page or one word. You see only a fragment. Unless you know the whole story, how can you judge?"

Could you elaborate on what specifically you're referring to? My guesses are (1) the theory that Christians should be active in politics to push a "peace" agenda, or (2) tongue-in-cheek sarcastic reference to the past-time many Christians have of fighting with other Christians.

Where does one start ... too many to chase down links for all of them.

Promise Keepers
Moral Majority and the culture wars
Left Behind/88 Reasons/Harold Camping (and other manifestations of dispensensationalism)
Purpose-Driven®
Ecclesial Buzzwords: Seeker-sensitive, emergent, organic (not food), missional
Young Earth Creationism
Weigh Down Workshop
Growing Kids God's Way
Chick tracts
British Israelism
"I Found It"
New Calvinism
Bonnet fiction
Amway, Plexus, and many other MLMs

Have I left anyone unoffended?

I am a Christian and my name is Pilgram; I'm on a journey, but I'm not alone -- NewSong, slightly edited

Great list: I'd forgotten about many of those: perhaps that's a good definition of a fad -- forgettable

The former. It's a fad, and a particularly foolish one.
