You could call that being caught up in a fad.

Several interesting menu ideas here, but the most down to earth is this:
Guess I'd eat whatever is in the fridge. Hate to see it go to waste.

Yeah, all those people I talked to who were very afraid of the government in Hungary, Kazak SSR, etc in the 1960s, 1970s, etc

Those are getting pretty popular with Beachys and Amish around where I live.
