Kitchen/cooking things you discovered too late in life?

Post by steve-in-kville »

Kitchen shears. Where have they been all this time?

Skillet with a lid. Could have used that 20 years ago.

The fact I can poach an egg in the microwave in less than a minute. Comes in handy.

And you?

I discovered some years ago that I am no cook.

My wife is the master chef and I happily consume her creations.

Wire whisk.

I had seen them used a few times but it didn't seem to be a great improvement on a fork. But then I thought of rolling it between my two palms and spinning it like a beater and now I use it frequently.

Air fryer.
My daughter has one we use (more than the microwave).
i can’t justify the expense to buy one for myself.

tupperware's metal whisk is much better than that round one. one of my selling points is, this is the best whisk ever, and you won't change my mind.
lets see if i can figure out how to post a picture

you might need to try this instead

My wife recently got an air-fryer, and she really likes it.

I thought you (JustMe) were going to suggest the type of wisk that is a sort of spring deal. (My wife has one of those as well, and I use it when I make my sort of omelette deal.) Back home 'we' (my Mom) had a crank type beater - I do not recall that she ever had a wisk.

But I don't do much cooking - I am one of 4 boys before my parents got their first daughter, but while we did cleaning, ironing, and washing dishes and "drying out", mom never had us do more in the kitchen than just helping with mixing ingredients and such like. I don't think i ever did any cooking at all until after I moved out of the house. (It was not pretty. ;) )

Ah-ha.
That reminds me.

Several years ago, i splurged on a Tupperware pasta cooker from justme. Mailed to my daughter.
She was skeptical, tried it, LOVES it! It’s pretty, too. Easy to clean.

Instant Pot.

I use it more than all other gadgets combined. Mostly for making soups and stews.

Another extremely nice tool is this little gem which lets you make microwave popcorn using regular popcorn. Which is much cheaper and healthier.

Can you make those spin rapidly like an egg-beater?
