How can one be sad with a fish & chips stand and a full English breakfast available at every street corner?MaxPC wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 4:33 amI can answer that as a native son:

- Too much governmental control, period.

Hasn't the UK been under Tory control over most of the past 40 years since Margaret Thatcher except for a brief stint of Labor governments in the 1990s under John Major who was hardly a socialist?MaxPC wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 4:33 amI can answer that as a native son:

By any definition of the term, the UK is the least socialist country in Europe and certainly far less socialist than all the other Nordic and continental European countries that are ahead of it on this ranking.

Perhaps that is still too Socialist.Ken wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 12:36 pmHasn't the UK been under Tory control over most of the past 40 years since Margaret Thatcher except for a brief stint of Labor governments in the 1990s under John Major who was hardly a socialist?MaxPC wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 4:33 amI can answer that as a native son:

The Tories have been extremely pro homosexual for example. This is yet another reason I don’t support “Conservative Party” politics.

Re: The Happiest Countries in the World
The point is that if socialism was a metric that caused unhappiness then Norway, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark would all be much less happy countries than the UK because they are all far more socialist than the UK by any metric. Yet the opposite is true.Josh wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 3:13 pmPerhaps that is still too Socialist.Ken wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 12:36 pmHasn't the UK been under Tory control over most of the past 40 years since Margaret Thatcher except for a brief stint of Labor governments in the 1990s under John Major who was hardly a socialist?MaxPC wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 4:33 am

Re: The Happiest Countries in the World
Indeed, I agree Josh. You have an inkling of the situation, being a part of the UK and all.
Those who have never lived in GB/UK should avoid arguing GB/UK politics as they have no understanding of the nuances nor context of British culture. The non-Brit always appears quite foolish. Of course there are those oppositionally defiant individuals who, without the necessary knowledge and who are desperate for attention, would try to argue with a dog about the correct way to wag his tail.
I would not even attempt to argue Oz politics as both context and nuances have differences with GB.

For what it’s worth, I don’t support the Liberal party either.MaxPC wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 4:37 pmIndeed, I agree Josh. You have an inkling of the situation, being a part of the UK and all.

Neither party will do it for me either. Now for something completely different: what are your ops on Harry?Josh wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 4:51 pmFor what it’s worth, I don’t support the Liberal party either.MaxPC wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 4:37 pmIndeed, I agree Josh.
