Thomas Sowell

Other: When it just doesn’t fit anywhere else.

Thomas Sowell is an economist, a former Marxist, he speaks on many topics. He emphasizes research and facts.
He has written many books, and has many youtube videos. i believe he’s living, in his 90’s.

With no order in mind, i hope to add lots of his work here. I WISH THERE WERE TRANSCRIPTS.

1995 / “The Visions of the Anointed” / “Self-Congratulation as Basis for a Social Policy” / 14:49 min.
[i believe this now has a new title: “The Origins of Woke”]

It’s amazing how this 1995 interview resonates today.
(i wish) there was some indication his work is included in today’s basic ed, high school and college.

Enjoy. :)

:P You’re being facetious, Thomas Sowell expands on your point.
His views are not more costly. He cites DISCIPLINE as an important factor. Imagine that.
Worth 57 minutes: :)

Discipline is one of the factors that was mentioned in the article I quoted above:
Disruptive children are stealing teaching time in 80,000 U.S. schools. Our discipline collapse is a national tragedy.
These results are derived from a 2004 study titled “Teaching Interrupted” published by the Brooklyn think tank,
Public Agenda.

Thomas Sowell frequently refers to being a FORMER Marxist, why he was, what changed his mind.
He speaks of his education at the University of Chicago, he refers to studying under MILTON FRIEDMAN.

i began viewing this series, there are several videos in this series.

1980 / Milton Friedman / Free to Choose / Vol 1 / The Power of the Market

Here is the root of "critical theory" which is behind all of the lunacy in education and public policy.
I think they give them too much credit for the "sexual revolution", but they're definitely the impetus behind the Maoist lunatics running wild on the streets and in academia.

There is nothing graphic in the video, BTW. I've found that YouTube, and the various "big tech" social media companies tend to do everything they can to censor anyone and anything which criticizes Marxist theory. There are no graphic scenes, or even rough language in the video. It just reveals the history of "critical theory"...

Outsider,
Thank you. i’ve been informally learning about all these men, Marxism, The Frankfurt School, etc., in recent months .. on this forum, mostly through Falco and Honduras Keiser, but, several have discussed.

From my life experience, i don’t think they over credited about the sexual revolution, however, i don’t think that revolution would have rocketed as it did without the widespread availability of free/cheap birth control pills (and more). These upended the world history of females essentially being “keepers of the gate” of carnal morality. Added to that timing, were Vietnam, and U.S. Civil Rights conflicts. The mix provided a place+time for sexual free-fall.

Interesting how they noted the “entitled” generation all this rode on.
i had little appreciation at the time, but, it was my family’s poverty that prevented me from falling headlong into it.
i didn’t understand then. i was puzzled that so many of my peers, and a bit older, could have both the resources and confidence to just indulge like they did. no personal accountability, at all. i presumed i just wasn’t as smart as they. only later did i figure it out.
they could live “with careless abandon” - because they knew very well, at any point, they could just go home to mom+dad’s place.

i hope Falco and HK view and comment.

One thing that deserves more emphasis (imho) -
The highly seductive nature of appealing to egos+I.Q.s.
The language and thought processes appeal to and challenge intellect, thus, esp in academia, people FIGHT to “get it.”
Frankly, it offers a path to assurance, because you can “get it,” you are, therefore, “better than.”

Of course, not stated in so many words. But in every human way possible. Intellect is god.
Interestingly, the theories ARE “within reach” - esp for those with just enough language skills. Quite cerebral.

Appeal to intellectual egos is no different than in any other human scenario. Flattery. Proverbs 29.5 (see OP video above)

It’s a trap. Those trapped cannot bear the thought.
That would equate to admitting error.

Thomas Sowell speaks to this conundrum in various ways.
He’s an interesting phenom. He IS an academic. He retains his common sense.

i intend to add to the THOMAS SOWELL thread. he began as a Marxist, then grew out of it as he learned more.
TS is in his 90’s. The world needs hundreds of 40 year old Thomas Sowells!

i may try to record the audio. youtube might cancel.

5 years ago / JLP Jesse Lee Peterson presents:

LARRY ELDER: Black Men Crushed By Excuses, NOT 'Racism'; Talks On Hating & Reconciling w/ His Father / 33min

Description:
Author and Salem Radio Talk Show Host, Larry Elder, delivers a moving and powerful testimony about reconciling with his father after years of not speaking to him.

Larry also discusses the state of black men and race relations.

The speech was delivered at BOND's 7th Annual Conference on Fatherhood and Men in Los Angeles over Father's Day weekend (June 19, 2016). For information about BOND: http://rebuildingtheman.com

Jesse Lee Peterson's latest book, The Antidote: Healing America from the Poison of Hate, Blame and Victimhood http://www.amazon.com/Antidote-Healin...
5 yrs ago - still relevant!

26:26 ✏️ Thomas Sowell
Larry Elder describes his personal experience with Thomas Sowell, beginning when Larry was just 14!

i was horrified at what Larry described about DEATH THREATS directed at TS his entire career.
Even on campus at Stanford where TS had an office. He couldn’t put his name on his office door, he lives in strict privacy.

conservatives who are black are ill-treated.
one thing that impresses me as i’ve been studying these men+women in the last year is, their GOOD ATTITUDES.
they are treated terribly, yet they carry on, seemingly unruffled, in Larry Elder’s case, unruffled with an engaging sense of humor!

EMOTIONAL and INTELLECTUAL MATURITY!

i encourage others to listen, at least at the 26:26 mark, for a few minutes from Larry Elder on Thomas Sowell.

Surprise! LIVE interview (Ben S posted 2 weeks ago). A treat.

i believe TS is now 93, i thought he had stopped doing interviews, lectures.

He has a new book?! - see below

Ben Shapiro / Dr. Thomas Sowell | Social Justice Fallacies / 21min
Description:
It's an honor to be joined by one of the greatest living thinkers of our time, Dr. Thomas Sowell.
In his new book, Social Justice Fallacies, Dr. Sowell debunks some of the biggest myths within the social justice movement.

18:00 TS mentions a book, “The end of Everything” by Victor David Hanson

The End of Everything: How Wars Descend into Annihilation
Victor Davis Hanson
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/198 ... everything

i’m glad TS has so much to offer by way of lectures, interviews, books, etc.
Even happier that, in spite of their “advanced ed,” many young people are discovering his work with enthusiasm.
Some cannot understand why his name is not a household word. (i’m with them.)

Better late than never. (Of course, TS is not all that’s hidden from them.) ✝️
