Ingredients for Successful Church Communities

Post by Ernie »

I'm trying to think of the ingredients that make for successful church communities. I'm thinking of church communities where there is not a lot of turmoil and confusion and church communities where the lost (other than posterity) are being brought into the church.
What would you list as "primary" ingredients, under which all other ingredients would be included?

Primary:
1. Alignment with God's universal principles and laws
2. Humility and daily dependence upon God.
3. A collective sensitivity to receiving direction from the Holy Spirit
4. A diligent following of Jesus

Secondary:
Sub points of the above.

I would add a primary point:

Love for one's brothers and sisters.

These could be secondary points under that:

High level of dedication to making the community work
High level of patience with the faults and foibles of others

I would add serving others, within and outside of the community. Perhaps as a subpoint of love.

I would also add solid understanding of Scripture. Perhaps as a subpoint of " Alignment with God's universal principles and laws".

Is it biblical? Is it Christlike? Is it loving? Is it true? How can I find out?

An atmosphere of both love and discipline ("loving discipline"), where neither is absent—much like a healthy family home.

A drive to reach the unreached, with the resultant culture and overall life focus that follows from that: young people serving in various VS units, small mission outposts in large North American cities, small mission outposts around the globe.

A sense of security and safety that one is amongst brethren and confidence in believing the Bible, believing in God, and confidence that you and your brethren are following God and the Bible the best you know how.

Creating intentional opportunities for meaningfully working together. Working together for a common goal has the invaluable benefit of binding people together.

The was a time when communities worked together on big projects out of necessity, but now we can buy anything we need more cheaply than we can get raw materials and make something together.

I'm thinking of things like ladies sewing circle, and food production, and butchering.
