to begin, isn't it odd that MD is gone, yet, searching/googling thread topics brings results?
MD doesn't open, but, the subject line appears. some searches bring a bit of detail about the thread.

Google will keep showing results until a replacement website is put up that returns blank pages for those old URLs.

Where did they go? I've gone into hibernation.

I would love to be part of this discussion but don't plan to be an active participant on MN.

I had decided earlier in the fall that my MD time is coming to a close and I was in the process of curtailing my time on MD due to other goals and responsibilities. My tenth anniversary would have been in December and I planned to go into hibernation at that point. With the collapse of MD, I've decided to speed up that time table.

 I will be reading threads like this with interest as I have time. 8-)

i've been mulling-over your words, Ernie. not easy. :-|

i particularly appreciate the way you reach out to new members, offering tangible, real-life help for their questions, offering of yourself whenever possible.

most, if not all, new members arrive seeking answers to conservative Anabaptist questions;
on this chatty forum, it's easy (esp for new members) to be side-tracked away from those initial questions and interests. you provide a consistent message at all times, in all circumstances; this, i imagine, where ever you are, not for MD/MN, alone.

i hope you will continue to keep an eye out for MN new members, it does not appear there will be a mad rush to join! - (i.e., to continue your ministry to new seekers in that way.) i believe you accomplished untold value for Jesus Christ on MD, and trust you will continue for Him, no matter your whereabouts.

i'm glad to know you will be visiting your many friends on MN, and remain open to continued contact.
thank you. and, peace be with you.

i've been remembering a tragedy from long ago.
sometime, 1970's, in a late dreary spring, taking its time coming, we learned an older neighbor-lady left their home just across the street, in her night clothes, walked into the nearby river and drowned. she left behind her husband. no sign of other family.

that river was notorious for fierce currents. right then, the water was cold from winter, and high, as usual for spring. dirty patches of unmelted snow on the ground.

at that time, we were young, adjusting to married life, with a new baby. we were new to the neighborhood, did not know our neighbors.

the winters were hard then, "all the news" was reporting about a coming Ice Age, and, it was easy to believe and fear they were right!

within a few days of her death, the sun came out. what a welcome relief!
i never stopped wondering, if she had just waited a very few more days, would she not have gone to that river? .. i don't know anymore now than i ever did.

i know hopelessness may be the most dangerous thing.

and, i know, Jesus brought hope for every single person, no matter who, no matter condition or circumstances of temporal life. there are countless accounts of people surviving the impossible, because of the hope Jesus brought to earth.

when i know so many are turning their backs on Jesus, i fear for them. one day, without question, they will need Him. they need to know where to turn for guaranteed hope.

no one (who lives long enough) will escape being tested. most are tested many times. there is no buying one's way out, yet, the poorest of all may be richly protected and blessed.

last week, i was listening to:

We have so much data, that we all have to filter it some how.
Those filters do bias that data.

One of the side effects of being in the information age.
So much data and such little wisdom.
Now, with MN's hearts/likes, we can "like" statements, while avoiding repetition! :D

i knew it was going to happen.
just not sure when, or how bad, how fast.

i have been just existing, keeping things paid.
some weeks ago, i read Soc Sec would increase a bit for 2017.
no increase in 2016, but, i was told, that was a good thing, 'cause, if it did, Medicare would have increased quite a bit more. i was told, "no increase," was a net gain.
so, when i learned of the 2017 increase, i was pretty sure other costs would increase and eclipse that amount.

i'm not sure of amounts. but, really, how does it matter?

since summer, we get more+more info on other increases.

i recently told my daughter, wouldn't it be great if every expense would decrease by a dollar, or so?
just a little decrease, across the board, would help a lot of us.

as well, the price of fuel has been lower for a couple of years.
when fuel costs increase, the cost of everything increases.
i notice no decrease in costs of everything with lower fuel costs. not even removal of "fuel surcharge increases!" added for the stated purpose to offset high fuel costs. to me, that's tacky.

i have been working on how to continue to tighten the belt, to adjust to 2017 increases.
i just received notice that one prescription i use will require (roughly $800) out of pocket in 2017 before it will be paid. my doctor has samples, that is not guaranteed, of course.
i do not see how i can adjust for that increase. i will talk to doctor about eliminating it. there is no generic.

so. i knew this would come. here it is.

i have not heard a word about either job i just applied for.
i will have to add more (nonexistent) work, just to tread water.

most days i go nowhere, to save money on gas. once weekly or every other week.
my thermostat is on 62-64F all winter, i use a heated throw to keep cozy.
last summer, i turned off the AC, used that money to travel to help my family.

looks like a bleak winter ahead.
if i will only focus on getting my home ready to sell, there is no down side to that.

if i sell, i do wonder how long it will be before i am homeless? it's a matter of simple math.

sad thing is, i have respectable income! (in my view) it should be enough!
it's enough to prevent me from qualifying for help that many receive.
i don't want to receive those benefits! (like food stamps, etc.) i do not qualify.
i want to be able to pay for things i need, without being pushed to a lower standard of living than i would have, if i made less!

i'm well aware, these kinds of problems are everywhere, all ages, affecting all types of employment.
one example is on the west coast, where minimum wage was increased. this increase threatened loss of gov benefits, so, employees began asking for fewer hours, so they could keep gov benefits!

it's sad when young people are incentivized to not work. what a waste. it's not healthy.

when our son was just starting college, we were visiting him on campus for a get-together.
one of the fathers there was a pipe-fitter from Chicago. hard work. skyscrapers.
he looked at his son and a few of the boys there, and said, very seriously,
"just remember. you are one paycheck away from the streets."
no one argued, students or parents.
