What are you reading?

Torch of Truth together as a family.

Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis by myself. Enjoyed the first bit. Now the tone seems to be changing a bit part way in to encouraging more of a life of solitude. I guess it is fitting.

Amos Fortune, Free Man by Elizabeth Yates, as a family. Been awhile since I read it; a powerful book to read to children. True, too.

Remember the prisoners, as though you were in prison with them, and the mistreated, as though you yourselves were suffering bodily. -Heb. 13:3

The Lost History of Christianity,
The Thousand-year Golden Age of the Church in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia - and how it died.
By Philip Jenkins
A fairly recent publish of 2008, considering I bought it at the Salvation Army.
Lots of interesting history so far.

Decades ago, when I had time for an annual reading of Tolkien, I always included Unfinished Tales after it was published in 1980.

I'm reading three books right now.

The Lost Art of Dress The Women Who Once Made America Stylish by Linda Przybyszewski.

The Decline of Males by Lionel Tiger

Money Possessions and Eternity by Randy Alcorn. This one is being read by several of us in the family for our church small group discussion.

I haven't re-read Unfnished Tales for several years, but an annual reading of the LOR is still part of the picture.

Disappearing Church - Mark Sayers- brilliant cultural critique and a scathing indictment of the consumeristic tendencies of our congregations.

Sounds intriguing. I'll have to look for that one.

Just finished Eat & Run by Scott Jurek. He set the record this past summer for running the Appalachian Trail.
