FB: Locked. Government Photo ID

i don't use FB a lot, i have 1 "friend," my daughter.
a few days ago, i found i was locked out of FB, they (demand) a government-issued photo ID.
they messaged how "easy" it is to provide this from my phone .. they presume a smartphone, which i do not have, nor want.

they are very efficient with their lock out!
i have no access to anything-FB; at every FB point, the same message page appears.
no "messenger."

my first response was:
what?! no ID for voting in government elections, but all-this for FB?

i googled, with several links to view.
evidently, this began in 2013:
FB - locked users
http://www.ghacks.net/2013/10/29/facebo ... rnment-id/

at this point, i am learning about alternative ways to demonstrate i'm a real person, it will take awhile, and, i haven't decided if i want FB enough to go through their hoops. i'm going through the steps, in case.

many-most active MDrs are on FB (?) - my impression.
has anyone had this lock-out experience? your response?

i would have put this in "Tech Talk," but, who reads that?!
tech-folk are welcome here, too.

A service like Facebook deals with lots of fraud and fake accounts - millions of them. They have an algorithm to decide an account might be fake. If you trip the algorithm, it will ask you to do things to verify you are a real person.

I agree it is questionable for voting to be easier than signing up for Facebook accounts.

I would question being asked for photo ID. They would have to prove to me they are who they are before I would verify I am who I am. Hackers do similar things to get info. Be very careful.

I had to do that with Facebook to get access back to my account after somehow it got compromised and someone else had the password and was posting spam.

just saw these posts.
my daughter's first response was to NOT upload anything! she suspected hackers.

since, i have learned it's something FB has been doing -
and, they have a couple of alternate methods .. but, even with those, i think they're still demanding a government-issued-photo-ID. with some info crossed out. they promise to destroy it after they approve it .. (whatever that means.)

my son's response was, "o.what a loss." (sarcasm) he left FB years ago. lol

i'd be interested in knowing how much FB contributes to the politics of "no ID required" for government elections!

i have not decided if i will attempt to unlock.

You should be able to easily create a new account. I think it would be very humorous to tell them that you feel opressed by having to provide a government ID since you do not have to when voting. FB CEO is a very progressive person and strongly supports the democratic side of things.

They also have high schoolers and some very young people making these decisions. You might ask their age as a verification for you. They will not respond, but it might get them to back off. They do not want the publicity of having them making decisions like that. Tell them you want to take to a real adult.

Tell them you want to [talk] to a real adult.
o. this is rich. you have articulated my disgust, and expanded on it.
i considered a new account, very briefly, not interested in that (i don't believe.)

the internet has "empowered" children+young people in ways they will live to regret (if they have the good fortune to mature properly.) Gene and i shared a few words on this (MD) in the past .. about how growing up on the world's stage is nothing to envy. "all that glitters" ..

Facebook isn't worth too much these days. I use it to participate in a few groups similar to MD/MN. That's about it.

It is also handy for text messaging with people who don't like to use their phones or don't have one with an unlimited plan.

FB is now EMAILING me, asking me to return, to see "all i'm missing."
twice today!

sounds like they're pretty sure i'm a real person after all.
with no gov issued photo ID.

i'm getting the notion .. ? .. people are leaving FB?
after Trump's election, i read some people were FB "unfriending" friends if they dared share support or tolerance for Trump.

show your true colors, people. :-|

my daughter told me one young cousin living in LA was FB ranting, threatening violence, etc.
no. we do not take him seriously. silly boy. Illinois democrat transplant.

my daughter said she's thinking of leaving FB.
my son left years ago.
