Some of what I have been up to lately

Post by undershepherd »

I thought some of you might enjoy this. Earlier this year I learned a new skill and entered a new profession. I became an auctioneer. Last week, I entered an auctioneering contest. I figured it would be a great way to get some feedback and improve my abilities. It was all that and more. I won't bore you with all the details. But it was a lot of fun and I did come home with the Rookie Award which is given to the highest scoring competitor who has been an auctioneer for less than 2 years. Anyway here is the video of me in the competition if you want to watch.

And if you want to watch the whole competition here it is.

Also a news article about me in the Washington Business Journal

Interesting. Auctioneering has always been a dream of mine. Didn't know we had that in common. :)

Can you tell us more about this?

Yes Ernie, I had a dream of being an auctioneer for about 15 years. Over the course of those years I went from thinking - "that would be an interesting thing to do" to "I wonder if I could do that?" to "I think I could do that" to "I am going to do that sometime" to "If I am going to do it, I had better get started".

Anyway, if it is something that interests you, I would be glad to talk about the specifics and maybe give you a few pointers.

We have already done two public auto auctions - one in September and one in November. They were kind of test runs to see if the idea would work. They were very well received and seemed to fit a niche that is needed. So we are going to spend some money getting some infrastructure in place so we can do one per month on the first Saturday of the month starting in March.

Most or all of this drama, humiliation, wasted taxpayer money could be spared -
with even modest attempt at presenting balanced facts from the start.

Hmm. A preacher turned auctioneer. 8-)

Has it sped up your preaching? Can you squeeze a 45 minute sermon into 30 minutes now?

I'd love to sit in on one of your auctions.

Is it biblical? Is it Christlike? Is it loving? Is it true? How can I find out?

And here is another clip from the same trip but a different event. https://youtu.be/cjMBNtDGtQE

I participated in a fundraising auction for the National Auctioneers Foundation. There were over 60 auctioneers in attendance and we raised over $4,000.

I'm trying to imagine you preaching at a funeral now ... or a wedding.
