I should add some of those T1. It will have an aaahoooogaaaah horn soon. After nearly 3 years of building it's great to be almost done with this project.

That's quite a nice cart, GC. The flames are hot!
Are you going to put a guard over the gear chain on the side so sleeves and pants don't get caught? I wouldn't mind driving that myself; it would be great for getting around large campgrounds.

No need for guards on the rear sprockets, since they are tucked into the side of the body and all the legs and arms are well outside of that arena. When the cart is sitting still they are stationary anyway. It also gives the sense of purpose to see them exposed. This was built with mostly used parts, from lawnmowers and snowblowers. As I finished the build I put in mostly new fasteners, new chains & bets, etc. The body is from my long faithful wheelbarrow that I have had for over 30 years and the basic frame (before modifications) was from a 70s era Montgomery Ward riding mower, as is the transmission. Lots and lots of custom made stuff and even the flame paint job is by yours truly. Thanks for taking a look.

Which car for the year you were born? 1918-2018
i realize there are lots of opinions on these picks, but.
still interesting to review.

Popular Mechanics / 100 years - 100 cars

1918: Ford Model T
“The very first Ford Model T rolled off a very new automotive assembly line in 1908 and truly gave America its first affordable wheels. A decade later, only 1 and 13 families owned a car, but it’s very likely that car was Ford’s wildly successful Model T.

The 20 hp engine was modest with a top speed of around 45 mph. But speed mattered little to Model T buyers because the car was almost half of all cars sold in the U.S. The Model T got less expensive as it got older and continued to be a strong seller with 15 million finding homes until 1927 when the car was replaced by the Model A.”
My father-in-law was born in Ohio in 1908, my father in 1916, mother 1917.
My grandparents were born in the 1890’s.
Lots of changes thoughout history.

.. i wish my civil engineering road building husband could see this picture ^^ ..
the roads!

The automobile most remembered for my year of birth is the 1949 Ford, which happened to be the first year that Ford introduced the V8 in their lineup. My grandfather owned a 1949 Ford and picked up our family from the boat on their return from Africa. I have the license plate from his car from the year of my birth. I was 9 months old when we all arrived in the States in September of that year.

Valerie’s recent thread regarding her VW purchase has so much good info, wanted to add it here:
Worldly Purchase?

Today .. i’m headed to an exhaust shop. Hoping it won’t be too painful. $$$ :)

They have a good reputation, they have the equipment and skills to do a good job, i.e., they can actually repair, not just replace whole units.

About 8 years ago, i was told i needed $2000 to replace a muffler “something.”
i took it into this shop. they repaired, charged me about $100.

when i went to pay, the owner chuckled at me and asked, “you were told this was going to be $2000, weren’t you?” .. “yes.”

so. i am hopeful. :)
