I was going to just leave your earlier statement. I think I understand what you mean, but within certain boundaries I was given a fairly free reign. Of course, I knew who I was writing for. Yet I did discover that, if I wanted a statement to stand, but was afraid it wouldn't, I could sometime rescue it if I pushed it further than I wanted it, so that when they toned it down it would say what I wanted. Not that this happened a lot.

Rod and Staff seems to believe that Truth is produced by committees. The writer is less likely to be right than the reviewers if there is a difference of opinion. Even the editor needs to give lip service to bowing to the wishes of the reviewers. So in a sense maybe you were right. But I'd like to believe that I brought some fresh ideas to the table in those books.

Of course you and your father aren't the normal class of readers... ;)
