Most or all of this drama, humiliation, wasted taxpayer money could be spared -
with even modest attempt at presenting balanced facts from the start.

I have an opening for an automotive mechanic at our shop in Harrisonburg VA. Experienced only need apply. I can get dozens of people without experience but I can only handle one of those at a time and I already hired one. Pays $45-65k per year with vacations and Simple IRA match.

I'm looking for a job that pays almost double the poverty level and uses 25% or less on rent. Oh and will train me, have options for advancement and offer a free pony.

Truck driving jobs will do all of that, plus give you a signing bonus. As long as you can pass the drug tests.

What is the poverty level?
https://aspe.hhs.gov/2021-poverty-guidelines

$26,500 for a family of 4 for 2021.

That is separate and different from what is considered a "living wage"

Two years ago this was great pay. Now it’s too low.

Hmm.

At Enterprise car today, one of the two people working the entire location told me Enterprise / ENAC is hiring all positions at all locations.

Most people laid off last year haven’t bothered to come back - found better jobs, according to the person I talked to.
