Job openings, work needed

Post by temporal1 »

i’m not sure if there’s an existing thread for this?
if so, this can be added.

i recall a similar thread on MD, but not the subject line.
if i recall, it wasn’t used a lot, but, served a good purpose.

just noticed this opening on GAMEO’s FB page:

Department of History
University of Winnipeg
Assistant Professor in Mennonite History

i wonder if any forum members, friends-relatives, past or present, active or quiet, will apply? ^^^
if so, when timing fits, it would be interesting to read.

After we moved last summer, I got the feeling more change is on the way.
Well, we didn't have enough work for this winter, so I ended up going a few states away for 2 two week stretches for fill in work.
I'm back now and there's plenty of work, but I'm still kind of in the market for something higher paying to help with the higher expenses of owing our own home as well as our growing family.
My biggest hold up is I don't have a high school diploma or GED that a lot of jobs ask for in their requirements.
My skill sets are limited, I do have my class A CDL, and I do enjoy running large equipment.
I have at least one prospect here locally that I still need to do some due diligence on yet.

If you are literate you can probably just ignore that qualification. An 8th grade church school education is equivalent to a high school education in many American school districts, or might even exceed one in underperforming school districts.

I’ve never had any employer ask to see my diploma much less high school transcript.

a week passed, not a peep.
i texted, “Did you find the help you needed?” .. i was sure they must have.
they replied right away, many apologies, and, “can you begin next week?” :D

so, i will try it out. we’ll see if it works out.

meanwhile, in my dejection, i decided i’d better keep looking .. :-|
i found a part-time job, small business. office-retail work.
further away, they asked me to come in to talk next week. i will do that.
both jobs would not be too much (i don’t think.) we’ll see.
i will try.

Wish they didn't require a college degree! I've always wanted to add to GAMEO since they're still missing some stuff.
