How Great Thou Art

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

1.
Empty and broken I came back to Him.
A vessel unworthy, so scarred with sin.
But He did not despair, He started over again.
And I bless the day He didn't throw the clay away.

Chorus
Over and over He molds me and makes me.
into His likeness, He fashions the clay.
A vessel of honor, I am today
All because Jesus didn't throw the clay away.

2.
He is the potter and I am the clay
Molded in His image, He wants me to stay
But when I stumble and I fall and my vessel breaks
He just picks up the pieces, He doesn't throw the clay away.

Damascus Road

If I'm blind to His will for me,
Then I'll wait to be shown;
And like Paul, I'll have an answer too,
At the end of Damascus Road.

I've been walking down Damascus Road,
And I've carried many cares;
To the place where I am waiting now,
Till the Master tells me where to go from here.

I'm learning Grace I thought I'd never have,
And how to wait upon the Lord;
The Answer's sweet, I think it's just in sight,
At the end of Damascus Road.

I've been walking down Damascus Road,
And I've carried many cares;
To the place where I am waiting now,
Till the Master tells me where to go from here.

A hymn (Christmas Carol) that was always sung at family gatherings when I was a child. (I've been looking for it for a long time, as I could only remember parts of a couple phrases (in German - I didn't know the English words at all).

Nun ist sie erschienen (# 76 R)

English:

The sun has now risen in heavenly glory,
And shines through the darkness of night;
Now rejoice and sing praises, yea, shout the glad story,
For in Christ the Redeemer is healing and light.
Refrain:
To God be the glory, and goodwill to men;
Through Christ our Redeemer shall peace come again.
The world lay benighted in death and destruction,
All mankind in sin was forlorn;
But through faith in the Savior comes peace and salvation,
Sing with joy, all you ransomed, the Savior is born.
Now go with the shepherds and follow the wise men
To seek for the heavenly Child;
And when you have found Him, accept and adore Him,
The Christ child from glory, so gentle and mild.

1. O wonderful, wonderful Word of the Lord!
True wisdom its pages unfold;
And though we may read them a thousand times o’er,
They never, no never, grow old!
Each line hath a treasure, each promise a pearl,
That all if they will may secure;
And we know that when time and the world pass away,
God’s Word shall forever endure.
2. O wonderful, wonderful Word of the Lord!
The lamp that our Father above
So kindly has lighted to teach us the way
That leads to the arms of His love!
Its warnings, its counsels, are faithful and just;
Its judgments are perfect and pure;
And we know that when time and the world pass away,
God’s Word shall forever endure.
3. O wonderful, wonderful Word of the Lord!
Our only salvation is there;
It carries conviction down deep in the heart,
And shows us ourselves as we are.
It tells of a Savior, and points to the cross,
Where pardon we now may secure;
For we know that when time and the world pass away,
God’s Word shall forever endure.
4. O wonderful, wonderful Word of the Lord!
The hope of our friends in the past;
Its truth, where so firmly they anchored their trust,
Through ages eternal shall last.
O wonderful, wonderful Word of the Lord!
Unchanging, abiding and sure;
For we know that when time and the world pass away,
God’s Word shall forever endure.

Below hymn is the hymn sung by Jim Elliot and the 4 other missionaries on the eve of their departure for Auca territory, where all 5 were speared to death.

We Rest on Thee

We rest on Thee, our Shield and our Defender;
We go not forth alone against the foe;
Strong in Thy strength, safe in Thy keeping tender.
We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.

Yea, in Thy Name, O Captain of salvation!
In Thy dear Name, all other names above;
Jesus our Righteousness, our sure Foundation,
Our Prince of glory and our King of love.

We go in faith, our own great weakness feeling,
And needing more each day Thy grace to know:
Yet from our hearts a song of triumph pealing;
We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.

We rest on Thee, our Shield and our Defender:
Thine is the battle, Thine shall be the praise
When reigning in the Kingdom of Thy splendor;
Victors, we rest with Thee, through endless days.

1. If, on a quiet sea,
Tow'rd heav'n we calmly sail,
With grateful hearts, O God, to Thee,
We'll own the fav'ring gale;
With grateful hearts, O God, to Thee,
We'll own the fav'ring gale.
2. But should the surges rise,
And rest delay to come,
Blest be the tempest, kind the storm,
Which drives us nearer home;
Blest be the tempest, kind the storm,
Which drives us nearer home.
3. Soon shall our doubts and fears
All yield to Thy control;
Thy tender mercies shall illume
The midnight of the soul;
Thy tender mercies shall illume
The midnight of the soul.
4. Teach us, in ev'ry state,
To make Thy will our own;
And when the joys of sense depart,
To live by faith alone;
And when the joys of sense depart,
To live by faith alone.
