CHORUS:
We need to thank God for all that we have:
The Cross, the Word, and the Blood of the Lamb,
A Savior who prays, a Spirit who stays,
Sealing us unto redemption day,
A Heavenly Father who cares for our needs,
Provider of all the gifts we receive.
I don't know about you, but friend I believe
We need to thank God.
I grew up attending more Inspirations, Kingsmen, Easter Bros, Primitive Quartet, and Cathedrals concerts than I can count. :-)

You must have had an awesome upbringing Brother!

Absolutely! When I was six years old, Jim Hammel sat me on his lap, laughed and talked for a while, then gave me an I <3 the Kingsmen bumper sticker. That bumper sticker was on the headboard of my bed until I got married and moved out of my parents house :D

Charleston, WV was the location I believe...

Praise, Lord, for Thee in Zion waits;
Prayer shall besiege Thy temple gates;
All flesh shall to Thy throne repair,
And find thru Christ salvation there,
And find thru Christ salvation there.

How blest Thy saints! How safely led!
How surely kept; how richly fed!
Savior of all in earth and sea,
How happy they who rest in Thee,
How happy they who rest in Thee.

The year is with Thy goodness crowned;
Thy clouds drop wealth the world around;
Thru Thee the deserts joyful sing,
And nature smiles and owns her King,
And nature smiles and owns her King.

Lord, on our souls Thy spirit pour,
The moral waste within restore,
O let Thy love our springtide be,
And make us all bear fruit to Thee,
And make us all bear fruit to Thee.

In the darkness, we were waiting
Without hope, without light
'Til from Heaven You came running
There was mercy in Your eyes
To fulfill the law and prophets
To a virgin came the Word
From a throne of endless glory
To a cradle in the dirt

Praise the Father, praise the Son
Praise the Spirit, three in one
God of glory, Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings

To reveal the kingdom coming
And to reconcile the lost
To redeem the whole creation
You did not despise the cross
For even in Your suffering
You saw to the other side
Knowing this was our salvation
Jesus for our sake You died

And the morning that You rose
All of Heaven held its breath
'Til that stone was moved for good
For the Lamb had conquered death
And the dead rose from their tombs
And the angels stood in awe
For the souls of all who'd come
To the Father are restored
And the church of Christ was born
Then the Spirit lit the flame
Now this gospel truth of old
Shall not kneel, shall not faint
By His blood and in His name
In His freedom I am free
For the love of Jesus Christ
Who has resurrected me

Praise the Father, praise the Son
Praise the Spirit, three in one
God of glory, Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings

Today, we sang a great hymn based on the Magnificat, part of today's lectionary. It's in the Mennonite Hymnal supplement, Sing the Story, #124. The tune is fun and the lyrics are of powerful hope.

Canticle of the Turning
Author: Rory Cooney
Tune: STAR OF THE COUNTY DOWN

1. My soul cries out with a joyful shout
that the God of my heart is great,
And my spirit sings of the wondrous things
that you bring to the ones who wait.
You fixed your sight on your servant’s plight,
and my weakness you did not spurn,
So from east to west shall my name be blest.
Could the world be about to turn?

Refrain
My heart shall sing of the day you bring.
Let the fires of your justice burn.
Wipe away all tears, for the dawn draws near,
and the world is about to turn!

2. Though I am small, my God, my all,
you work great things in me,
And your mercy will last from the depths of the past
to the end of the age to be.
Your very name puts the proud to shame,
and to those who would for you yearn,
You will show your might, put the strong to flight,
for the world is about to turn.

3. From the halls of power to the fortress tower,
not a stone will be left on stone.
Let the king beware for your justice tears
ev’ry tyrant from his throne.
The hungry poor shall weep no more,
for the food they can never earn;
There are tables spread, ev’ry mouth be fed,
for the world is about to turn.

4. Though the nations rage from age to age,
we remember who holds us fast:
God’s mercy must deliver us
from the conqueror’s crushing grasp.
This saving word that our forebears heard
is the promise which holds us bound,
‘Til the spear and rod can be crushed by God,
who is turning the world around.

He who wept above the grave,
He who stilled the raging wave,
Meek to suffer strong to save,
He shall come in glory.

He who sorrow's pathway trod,
He that every good bestowed –
Son of Man and Son of God –
He shall come in glory.

He who bled with scourging sore,
Thorns and scarlet meekly wore,
He who every sorrow bore –
He shall come in glory.

Monarch of the smitten cheek,
Scorn of Jew and scorn of Greek,
Priest and King, divinely meek –
He shall come in glory.

He who died to set us free,
He who lives and loves e'en me,
He who comes whom I shall see,
Jesus only – only He – He shall reign in glory!

~Author Unknown

Ran across this being quoted in a commentary to-day, I really like it.
Is anybody familiar with it? Is it a hymn?
I don't know if this is all or part.

Master the tempest is raging

Master, the tempest is raging!
The billows are tossing high!
The sky is o’ershadowed with blackness.
No shelter or help is nigh.
Carest thou not that we perish?
How canst thou lie asleep
When each moment so madly is threat’ning
A grave in the angry deep?
The winds and the waves shall obey thy will:
Peace, be still.
Whether the wrath of the storm-tossed sea
Or demons or men or whatever it be,
No waters can swallow the ship where lies
The Master of ocean and earth and skies.
They all shall sweetly obey thy will:
Peace, be still; peace, be still.
They all shall sweetly obey thy will:
Peace, peace, be still.
Master, with anguish of spirit
I bow in my grief today.
The depths of my sad heart are troubled.
Oh, waken and save, I pray!
Torrents of sin and of anguish
Sweep o’er my sinking soul,
And I perish! I perish! dear Master.
Oh, hasten and take control!
Master, the terror is over.
The elements sweetly rest.
Earth’s sun in the calm lake is mirrored,
And heaven’s within my breast.
Linger, O blessed Redeemer!
Leave me alone no more,
And with joy I shall make the blest harbor
And rest on the blissful shore.

The lines fold me oh fold me became extra meaningful to me when a friend described it as follows: picture our Lord folding a large warm towel up to His chest- and we are the towel being folded to Him.

Nearer Still Nearer

Nearer, still nearer, close to Thy heart,
Draw me, my Savior—so precious Thou art!
Fold me, oh, fold me close to Thy breast;
Shelter me safe in that "haven of rest";
Shelter me safe in that "haven of rest."

Nearer, still nearer, nothing I bring,
Naught as an off'ring to Jesus, my King;
Only my sinful, now contrite heart,
Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart;
Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart.

Nearer, still nearer, while life shall last,
Till safe in glory my anchor is cast;
Through endless ages ever to be
Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee;
Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee!
