Mental Calendar Image

Post by Ernie »

This is just for fun.

What is your mental image of the yearly calendar?

My mental image has February toward the top of a circle and August at the bottom. The calendar goes counter-clockwise.
July is a bright sunny color like noon sunlight. January is sort of black like night. March is like the beginning of the day and gets brighter through July. Then the brightness begins to dissipate through August. October is sort of like evening amount of light. November is sort of dusk-ish.

2nd: March, April, May
3rd: June, July, Aug
4th: Sep, Oct, Nov

Basically, by seasons (beginning with winter)

The other main image I have of the calendar comes from counting months on my knuckles so I know how many days each month has:

Image
Starting with your forefinger’s knuckle:
1st knuckle: Jan (31 days)
Groove: Feb (28 or 30 days)
2nd knuckle: March (31 days)
Groove: April (30 days)
3rd Knuckle: May (31 days)
Groove: June (30 days)
4th Knuckle: July (31 days)
Returning to first knuckle (the forefinger, remember–skip the thumb knuckle)
1st Knuckle: August (31 days)
Groove: September (30 days)
2nd Knuckle: October (31 days)
Groove: November (30 days)
3rd Knuckle: December (31 days)

My image is also that of a counterclockwise circle. Each month is represented by the predominant weather and the church's liturgical calendar.

If you ask for the months... beats me. Look at a calender... its not useful information.

Winter is dark, in more ways than one.

Love spring and fall. More sunlight without the heat of summer or darkness of winter.

Great question! :D I think of this all the time.
My image is an egg shaped oblong oval line. The fat end of the egg is on the left.
Jan 1 is the tip of the narrow end on the right and September is at the top left just ready to dive downward into October.
The progress is counter clockwise.

No color or light involved, but the top seems like it should be warmer than the bottom even thought February is included on the top.
The there is nothing but space in the center.

Years ago I shared with a friend about my mental calendar image. He laughed and said that his is a stairway. Jan 1 is the top, and each month you take a step down. Then you are at the top again the next year.

:D That's the old rhyme we learned in elementary school:
30 days hath September,
April, June and November,
All the rest have 31,
Except February has 28 days clear
And 29 in each leap year.
