What do Americans believe will happen with Winter if different groundhogs in different cities make different predictions?

Groundhogs have to have an arm wrestling tournament. Winner to determine the weather for whole country.

Wife: what if the groundhog just wants to go back to bed? It seems awfully mean to wake them up from hibernation just to see if there’s a shadow, and the matches might get ugly when they’re low on sleep
