Speaking of Charles Spurgeon on another thread reminds me of this story which I find humorous-

“D.L. Moody went to London to meet Spurgeon, whom he had admired from a distance and considered to be his professional mentor. However, when Spurgeon answered the door with a cigar in his mouth, Moody fell down the stairs in shock. “How could you, a man of God, smoke that?” protested the great American evangelist.

Spurgeon took the stogie out of his mouth and walked down the steps to where Moody was still standing in bewilderment. Putting his finger on Moody’s rather rotund stomach, he smiled and said, “The same way you, a man of God, could be that fat!”

I don't think it is funny at all! Sad really, because it is true. We pray for revival, but it is always others who need it, and not we ourselves. Any true revival must first begin with me personally before I can expect God to work in others around me.
no, it's not funny, perhaps, more raw irony. :)
"Many a true word is spoken in jest"

Meaning
A literal meaning; that the truth is often found in comic utterances.

Origin
The first author to express this thought in English was probably Geoffrey Chaucer.
He included it in The Cook's Tale, 1390:
"But yet I pray thee be not wroth for game; [don't be angry with my jesting]
A man may say full sooth [the truth] in game and play."

Shakespeare later came closer to our contemporary version of the expression, in King Lear, 1605:
"Jesters do oft prove prophets"
here's another, esp apt for today's mixed-up world: :-|
"if your god lets you do whatever you want to do" -

if i recall correctly (??) ..
in times of kings and harsh penalties for free speech, court jesters could "get away with" saying truthful things under the guise of entertainment, without so much fear (as others) of a death sentence.

I really don't think this is funny, but not sure where else to put this.

Another consensus of scientists. I guess we have to take it as fact. I bet they have some peer reviewed works too.

Now, that is funny! :laugh
