big ones - baked
the really small ones that were not done growing yet, but it's time to dig them - boiled
my third (and last choice) - mashed.

(I'm referring to the traditional mashed potatoes, where you end up with a smooth mix. There's also a fairly new to me way of doing potatoes that are 'mashed', but it's something like you boil or bake them first - I don't know which it is, as I am not a cook - then they are smashed down, and maybe roasted in the oven. Like these too.)

Oh, and diced & boiled in soup, with just a bit of ham, maybe just a ham bone, to give it flavor. (We 'Russian' Mennonites are big on soups.... I'd put this up as # 2, except in the winter, then it's #1.)

Yes, baked til the skin is super crispy- remove the potato and put butter on it and put butter in the skin halves. YUM

Neto- those potatoes you described sound like smashed potatoes.

I like them casserole style. I don't know how to do it, but there should be several at any southern carry food event. They are baked, but it's more than that. It involves a lot cheese, sour cream ect...

Sounds like scalloped potatoes? They sure are good ...

If you’re wondering what the difference is between Scalloped Potatoes and Au Gratin Potatoes, scalloped potatoes are made with a flour-butter-milk roux, whereas Potatoes au Gratin are made with 100% indulgence: cream, butter and cheese.

Wrap them in aluminum foil. Bury them in hot coals. Unwrap and eat.

Honestly, microwaved potatoes are plenty good, you don't have to get fancy. Cut into them so they don't explode, put in the microwave, cut open and add butter ...

Steak fries on the grill are pretty good. I learned to do them in the oven. Became a family favorite.
