Flannel shirts

Post by Haystack »

Now that winter is creeping up, I decided I could use some warmer shirts. Although I live in California, it still gets cold and I find that flannel shirts are my best option since they keep me warm, but not too hot like a coat would. I usually buy my clothes from the goodwill, but this year I haven't been able to find any flannels.

My question is does anyone know of a store (online preferably) to buy plain flannel shirts that are of good quality but reasonably priced? Most of the ones I have found online are name brands with logos and way out of my price range.

i liked the LL BEAN flannel shirts for my husband.
they're warm, beautiful quality, and, free shipping.

they hold up.

when buying online, i often google something like, "discounts ll bean"
this often results in a code that will gain an extra 10-15-20% off.

they also offer a $10 shopping card when you spend $50.
i don't purchase much, at all, now, but, in the past, those $10 cards helped.

great return policy.
but, i'm not sure we ever returned anything.

we liked the "chamois" flannel shirts, which come in nice solid colors, they work nicely as a light jacket.

there are several flannel choices, including some flannel-lined shirts.
we did not try others.

Duluth Trading Co has some nice looking options, esp if you're tall.
never purchased from them, either.

my family on the west coast really likes REI.
i don't know if they have flannels.

some flannels are not well made at all.

i wear my husband's flannel shirts as jackets in cool weather.
i'm sure they look awful on me! but they are so cozy. and durable.

yes.
for years+years, i was "chief purchasing agent" for most of our family's needs.

now, my daughter tells me about "groupon"
she's gotten some great buys.
i've never tried it.

those ^^ may be too expensive, up-front. others may have better suggestions.
for items we did not buy often, we'd try to choose quality. over time, it pays.
but, the up-front cost may not be an option. it wasn't always for us, either.

some items can be found in thrift stores, too.
if you know what you're looking for, some good buys can be found.

craigslist and ebay might have items?
my family has given up on ebay, but they still use craigslist.
be careful about meeting people!!!

if you share your size and color preference, we unclutterers might be able to help out. :D
MD used to have some clothing threads like this.
and, there was MD Bay. :D

Havand has reasonable prices and they're having a sale on flannel shirts right now

My favorites are the chamois shirts from Sportsman's Guide and Cabelas. They're more expensive but they last me at least 15 years.

My Carrhart flannel I'm wearing right now has a tiny tiny logo, and it would be very easy to remove it.

I have a few flannel shirts - I've worn them since as long as I can remember. (Not the ones I have now, just flannel shirts in general. The colors are different now than they were back in the early 70's, late 60's.) Anyway I'm a bit more reluctant to wear them now, since it's become a fad for (what I call) "pretty boys" to wear them now. (No offense to anyone intended.)

If you get cold enough and the item in question is warm, you wear it. Regardless if pretty boys, ugly ducklings, martians or democrats think it's trendy.
