The National Hurricane Center is a part of the National Weather Center. Does one of their tweets count as "verbatim?" Or should that be some kind of ver-tweetem?;) ;)
NHC is one of the NCEPs, which is part of the NWS, which in turn is part of NOAA. NHC's web site is nhc.noaa.gov, so telling someone to google a quote from the NWS is not very helpful, since "strongest storm ever on record" site:weather.gov currently finds no results. Does Google even find tweets?

It's somewhat like telling someone "I drive a GM car" or "I drive a yellow Pontiac Aztek." Both could be correct, but one is significantly more helpful in locating the vehicle in question.
Certainly attributing the quote to the NHC would make it easier to find. And no, I don't believe that "the strongest storm in their records" is a verbatim quote from any division of the NWS. Katrina, Camile, and the 1935 FL (Keys) hurricane were all more intense at landfall than Irma now is, based on minimum pressure, which NHC says serves as a reasonable proxy for wind speed.

Thank you Peregrino. Here's some info to pass along to them regarding highway conditions so they can plan.

I-16 between Savannah and Macon, GA will start its contra-flow on Saturday to facilitate evacuation from northeast FL & GA coasts westward and inland.

Some campgrounds are donating 3-14 days of free camping for evacuees throughout the Southeast: first come first served.

Even inland Florida residents are getting very nervous. Some who planned to evacuate only as far as Ocala have decided to continue to I-10 and head west to I-65 & I-55 before heading north to completely evade Irma. The traffic conditions are crowded on I-75 into Atlanta. I-10 has traffic moving at normal speed and fewer cars; for now.

I've never seen such a group of people that clap their hands so much. Well, some Pentecostals. :) I wonder what the penalty is for not clapping ? Likely pretty severe. Well, anyway, Christ died for their sins also. Wouldn't it be some remarkable testimony if Kim Jong-Un became a follower of Christ. It happened to the apostle Paul, in his words, chiefest of sinners.

The FL governor requested and received a fuel waiver from the government to expedite fuel delivery into FL. The fuel trucks are being escorted by law enforcement to get them in place quickly. It may be they're traveling at AutoBahn speeds

The governor has also designated college campuses as staging areas for emergency services. FL governor is still calling for many more volunteers.

People are under mandatory evacuation on both the east and west FL coasts. If they don't, they will be forcibly removed until the law enforcement is told to retreat.

They are securing the two power company nuclear reactors. Army Corps of Engineers are monitoring dikes and other flood control structures.

Shelters are up, running and filling. Shelter support services are also in place. The government has made it clear that there will be vetting procedures in place to keep convicted sex offenders out of shelters. Most likely they will be housed temporarily in jails: however they were not clear though as to what they will do with them.

NHC confirms Irma is one of only five hurricanes ever to achieve peak wind speed of more than 295 km/h, following Allen (1980), Labor Day (1935), Gilbert (1988), and Wilma (2005)

Based on National Hurricane Center's current track for Hurricane Irma, south Florida will begin to have tropical-storm-force winds by early Saturday morning, reaching northeast Florida by Sunday morning and central South Carolina by Sunday evening. Heavy rain is forecast for South Florida by late Friday in association with the outer bands of Hurricane Irma.

US Postal Service in South Florida is closing.

FEMA - the Federal Emergency Management Agency has contacted each individual who uses medical equipment requiring electricity and is providing them with locations that will have generators to allow the equipment to function. They aren't taking chances as they don't know how long power will be out.

This hurricane is not just a FL threat. NWS says its a very serious threat to the entire southeast US. As it moves inland winds will decrease but tornadoes pose threats as part of the system. Our friends who were going to stay in the mountains are traveling even farther out of the path because winds are projected to 50 mph there.

Hurricane Jose is following behind Irma.

We read through Amos today-

Is this God doing all this? 11 states on fire (and into Canada)
Hurricanes
Mexico just had an 8.1 earthquake-

Coincidence?
Global warming?

God????

I heard someone blaming the devil for the weather-
But Amos, prophet of God, refers weather situations to God-
Do people even consider Him anymore in all this? I don't know-
