While Texas is a little bit of a rogue state, they do take care of their own. They will do what it takes to rebuild and they will have many other Texan hands to make sure it is done. There is always some who will fall through the cracks, but over all, they will care for each other as many of the pictures have shown. When a crisis hits, race, religion, or gender identity means nothing. Texans will help no matter who needs it.

I remember back years ago when a tornado hit Little Rock in one of the poorest neighborhoods, all black. We took several crews down from our all white Klan controlled county to help. The first day we drove through that neighborhood looking for the MDS office, we get really bad looks. What was a van load of white people doing there? Months later, on our last trip, when we drove through, we get tired of waving at everyone. Our and their lives were ever changed. I took youth down twice. Almost all had never been around a person of color. The Klan literally chased them out of the country. The youth all wanted to do more trips. They saw each person we helped as a human being, not a color.

Texas will do and are doing the same.

Absolutely! And actually, I don't think that's just Texans. I see a whole lot of that in North Carolina and the other places I have lived in the United States. The helpfulness of Americans is one of the things I really appreciate about this culture.

At the same time, local and State governments are doing a lot, and Texas seems to be asking the federal government to chip in a LOT of help and money. As well they should. You need both volunteers and government.

Especially for the people who come out to help. This kind of thing is a great way to unite people, and a chance to help volunteer with others who may not look like you.

We used to live in Kerens, just east of Corsicana, TX. All the trucks in the image are loads going to Houston, including the hay. They received a Police Escort too.

Hopefully the gasoline panic at the pumps will calm down; I'm told by friends that the stations ran out of gas. All of the major refineries are now up and running except one.
