On the radio today, I heard that so many people are volunteering to help out with their boats that lines at the boat ramps are long and authorities are now turning some of them back. On the radio, I heard one story after another of people helping their neighbors.

i was happy to read that NYC is showing support for Houston.
NYC and the East Coast cities certainly receive abundant support during their crises, from government and private sources, individuals, from all over. all states should be assured of mutual support, moral support, prayers, no matter location, population, politics. :D

Great thread, Robert. I don't have the ability to post pictures but can share more of what I've learned. They're still asking for more small boats for rescue work with at least 200 hp to be able to navigate the high speed currents, especially they need air boats (the outboards are hitting submerged objects and breaking down.)

Sonny Purdue, US Ag Secretary, has authorized moneys to provide the children with at least two free meals/day for a year; in some cases three free meals for a year depending upon the area damage.

The 3 branches of The Cajun Navy out of Louisiana is there; the Waco Navy is also there. These are private citizens with shallow draft boats that can navigate the city alleys and streets.

People and pets are being rescued. Churches, synagogues and mosques with the necessary facilities are opening their doors as shelters as the regular shelters are all at capacity. A large percentage of those flooded had no rental or homeowner insurance.

The refineries will be closed until all rains have stopped and waters recede. They're keeping a close eye on TS Irma which is headed for the US. The refineries provide approximately 16% of the nation's fuel supply. Prices have already climbed 25-30 cents/gallon.

They're able to launch boats from the street level. Port Arthur, TX is also in dire need of shallow draft boats for rescues.

FEMA has made hotels and motels available for flood victims. Curfew has been implemented because of looting, in some cases the looters were shooting at rescuers. Zero Tolerance for looters has been implemented.

Gators and snakes in the water are presenting dangers but still the rescuers persevere. Convoys of trucks from power companies around the USA have arrived to help restore power.

24,000 National Guard now have boots on the ground in the area.

I-10 is officially closed. Rescue crews and power crews only are being allowed into the affected area to keep the R&R better organized. Louisiana is helping TX while enduring tornadoes and some flooding conditions themselves. Rescue crews are refueling in LA. West Houston is flooding.

Tornadoes sighted in MS. Continued prayers are appreciated.
