My father passed away

Post by Praxis+Theodicy »

He knew his 6 grandchildren from my sisters, and he did know that my wife and I are expecting. But my children will never know their PapaJay. He was like a celebrity to his other grandchildren, they couldn't fathom how awesome he was. The hardest thing for me to accept isn't that he is gone, it's that my children will never get to spend time with him.

I praise God that we told him we were expecting before he passed away.

Prayers for your family.

I lost my last grandparent over the pandemic.

My granddaughter is now 16, born after her great-grandparents passed. your grief is real.

i tell her about them, what marvelous people they were, and how they would have loved her beyond measure. Also, pointing out fun common traits as they appear - like, how mygrdaughter LOVES black pepper on her food - like her grandpa S.! she doesn’t like bananas, like her grandma S. (our family found this comical) evenso, she would make dreamy banana cream pies - for grandpa - sacrificial love!

it’s incredibly bittersweet. my mother passed in 2006. i miss her everyday. i want to call her.

we live with holes in our hearts that grow scar tissue, but do not fully heal.
we’re happy to know they’re in deserved rest, the sadness is for ourselves. we sincerely experience both.

life makes me think of relay races.
each generation wants to pass along “the baton” to the next, as best we can.

since i’ve been “here,” i think i understand a bit better “that place” my mother would go when she “remembered” some U.S. Civil War experiences. she was born in 1917, long after! she had “the baton” relayed down to her from grandparents+great-grandparents. the misery of that war. it’s impossible to know how far back “the baton” goes, i suspect ‘way back. maybe to The Garden.

before radio-tv-technology, people greatly relied on personal and family experiences for information, insights.
passing batons .. thankfully, it continues. under the noisy radar.

God be with you.

Most or all of this drama, humiliation, wasted taxpayer money could be spared -
with even modest attempt at presenting balanced facts from the start.

This must be hard, but I admire your faith to still find reasons to praise God.

Prayers for comfort.
