Weed Torch
i torched my driveway weeds today, they were brown+dry, so, it was quick work (even for me.)
they were 4-12", scattered over my long driveway.

i have no delusions this will deter regrowth! (both from posts here, and prior experience.)

however, this tool serves a few purposes (read customer comments.)
it's not a must-have tool. but, i'm glad to have it.

i paid about $3 for a can of propane. there may be some leftover.
i was not trying to conserve.

tomorrow, i plan to take a garden hoe, scrape away whatever remains -
to help when shoveling snow. then, i hope we have little or no snow!
we can have a little to a lot, it varies. weather pros know nothing ahead of time.

my blueberry plants look good, bright red leaves.
wish i had a couple bags of pine bark mulch to add.

covered crawlspace vents today. nights are getting cold.

Swifkik Snow Blade


This was a local invention.
i saw a local news report on it, with a short video demo.
i bought one locally.

Now, the local website is gone, Amazon has this ad, but, "Currently unavailable."

First snow, i tried it for the first time yesterday.

for me, it was a bit heavy.
my fav snow shovel/pusher is very lightweight, and not big, at all.
i have several types, this-most-humble-one has been my favorite for years. plastic blade, wooden handle.

this snow was wet and heavy.
while the Swifkik pushed more snow, the weight of it+weight of snow = harder work (for me.)
i gave it a good try, traded for my little shovel/pusher.

it might work nicely for light, dry snow, i will try it again.

meanwhile, i'll try to think of an alternate use for it. sled?
it is well made and strong. glides over snow.

sled is not a bad idea.
for some winters, i have parked my car near the road, i've thot of using a child's sled to transport groceries and things to the house. the Swifkik has holes/handles that could be used to tie a rope. how to keep things from sliding off? not sure.

You last bit reminded me of when we lived in the mountains of central PA. Our house was halfway down the hill and in the Winter we always parked on a landing next to the road. When it snowed (which it often did) we would transport our groceries, or anything else down to the house on a sled.
The sledding was wonderful, even our dog loved it, riding with one or more of us as we enjoyed the snow as much as possible. Good memories.
One of these days I will have to "dig out" some of those pictures.

i used my improvised sled today .. i had several wet+heavy+muddy bags of soil and mulch to move. it worked! now they can wait until spring for more action.

my wonderful garden cart gave out last year. boo-hoo.

if i'd known it would be impossible to replace, i would have bought 2. years ago!
i believe it cost about $30, it was lightweight, 2 wheels, sat low to the ground, and could be tipped to ground level for easy loading. so much easier for me than a wheel barrow.

i used that cart for all kinds of things, including catching rain water!

i've searched all kinds of carts, found nothing like it, nothing close to that price.
if i move, i may not need a cart like that again.
that will be a spring decision.
