Campground Ramblings

Post by MaxPC »

  for the renewal of the cyber Menno meeting room.

Since the collapse of MD and emergence of MN, we have been very busy around the children's homestead. Added to that, DW started having dizziness episodes. Off to the doctor who has ordered some interesting tests (process of elimination) but ultimately thinks it's nothing more serious than canaliths or BPPV. This condition is easily rehabbed with a repositioning exercises done by a PT or other trained individual.

It's never very boring, even while camping.

Time to get off the phone and forum. I've been in the waiting room while DW gets the rest (and hopefully last) of the testing completed. She really dislikes being poked and prodded by medical tests.

Taking it easy today.

The last of the hurricane evacuees left the campground this week. Some took the hurricane opportunity to have an RV vacation without having to use their vacation days. Makes sense as there was nothing they could do until damage was cleared.

A number of people we've met in our travels use their RVs as "bug-out" vehicles if an evacuation is ordered. They keep a set of clothes in their RVs all the time so all they have to do is grab the food, children, pets, valuables, etc and take to the road. They also keep the propane tanks filled and if they have a gennie, the fuel tank full on that too.

Travel trailers take longer to prep because they have to to be hitched properly, brakes adjusted, sway bars adjusted, etc. They do have the advantage of a separate tow vehicle that can be used to commute to the store or the job.

Motorhomes can leave within 10 minutes: load and go. There are no hitching chores to do unless you have a towing device to tow your car. Motorhomes are a not convenient for grocery trips or commuting so generally a separate car, scooter or motorcycle is needed.

Life in the RVing community is certainly different

Even with early voting, there was a line of people at the polling location and another line of cars waiting to get into the polling parking lot. They had an officer directing traffic.

I had forgotten that today was election day. We didn't have to wait too long to get past the turn for the polling place. We gave all of it a miss and went to the grocery store for milk and potatoes.

My wife made her delicious cream of potato soup this evening to go with our grilled shrimp. I'm still full. :D

Tomorrow we'll go to the children's house and help with chores. Good night all.

The campground breathed a collective sigh of relief this morning. The folks here are tired of BAU (business as usual) in DC. They are also savvy to media bias and make their own choices. RVers seem to be an independent group thinkers: an interesting group of folks. :D

Chores today. May all have a blessed day!

Speaking of fires, the Smoky Mountains really are smokey this week: drought has created tinderbox conditions that ignite easily from the hastily tossed tourist cigarette or cigar. I read earlier this week that all the mountain counties in the Southeast US are asking more people to volunteer with their fire departments.

New arrivals to the cg come in on Thursdays and Fridays. They sometimes create a traffic jam for getting into their sites. Funny how the city seems to follow them to the "wilderness". Life in the herd

We had a call from the lady who left her abusive husband in that campground incident last year. She is doing well, has a job and is going to a local church with a support group for abused women. She sounded quite happy and was just calling to touch base with us and to see how we are doing. Her husband will be released from jail in June and will have to be on probation; he is also forbidden to contact her. She has not legally divorced him yet but I can see where that will happen. She doesn't want him to know where she is and is hoping to begin the procedure with an attorney in a large city so that he can't deduce her actual location.

Cool temps and we're wearing sweaters. The sun is shining and the day is lovely to be outside.

Don't have a cardiac that I'm on here on Sunday. It won't become a habit.

I was awakened with a call from another Plain Catholic to let us know NZ had another powerful earthquake so came on to request prayers.

Back to Sunday.
