We bagged one wild turkey and three deer Saturday. Turkey were plentiful earlier this year but they're sparse now. We ate the turkey yesterday. The cooks canned the deer into venison stew as well as vacuum-sealed meat for our freezers. We are blessed!
More family time today and most and the travellers will return home tomorrow. Then we'll all have to rest from our reunion.

Re: Campground Ramblings
We attended vigil Mass last night and will be taking an afternoon road trip with family today.
No the world isn't ending because I've done Sunday MN posts twice this month. It's the vagaries of the seasonal schedule. I just realized we don't have the fainting icon anymore.
Last night begins our season of Advent. Wreaths of candles and the singing of Scripture that prophesies the coming of Christ will be our Subdays from now until Christmas. It's one of my favorite seasons.

I'm impressed with whoever bagged the turkey. They are rather ellusive!MaxPC wrote:We bagged one wild turkey and three deer Saturday. Turkey were plentiful earlier this year but they're sparse now. Is it biblical? Is it Christlike? Is it loving? Is it true? How can I find out?

That kind is slow moving anyway. Wild turkeys are pretty sneaky and fast.gcdonner wrote:We get ours at the local grocery store where they are very plentiful!

Re: Campground Ramblings
When we lived in the Berkshires, back in the 90s, we had a whole flock visit our yard one day. My wife counted 45 sitting in and around our crab apple tree. On Thanksgiving day that year, my parents had come out to spend the weekend with us. We had more than a foot of snow on the ground and right around noon time, a pair of wild turkeys came flying in and landed on the roof of the little log cabin in our yard, next to the pond. It was a special time. We had all kinds of wild life there.Bootstrap wrote:That kind is slow moving anyway. Urban turkeys
http://www.sacbee.com/news/local/enviro ... 80252.html
i've seen them in nearby town, confusing drivers; read about local city pedestrians being chased by them.
i saw turkeys on sale for $.67/lb before Thanksgiving, $.99/lb since.
got sticker shock a couple of years ago with family on west coast: $3.00+/lb.!
my daughter told me: "next year, YOU bring the turkey!"
(2,000 miles/3 airports)

Most or all of this drama, humiliation, wasted taxpayer money could be spared -
with even modest attempt at presenting balanced facts from the start.

Re: Campground Ramblings
It's not uncommon to have to wait for a flock of turkeys to cross the road here. They tend to take their time or just stand in the middle of the road for 5 minutes. It can be quite dangerous sometimes.

Re: Campground Ramblings
If you beep the horn and start moving towards them they usually will move. You really are insulting someone when you call them a turkey. They can be pretty dumb animals. We have raised a few in the past...Haystack wrote:It's not uncommon to have to wait for a flock of turkeys to cross the road here. Re: Campground Ramblings
It's normally that way here too. By the time Thanksgiving week arrived though, their numbers decreased: quite a few families are unemployed and go hunting to supplement their pantry.Haystack wrote:It's not uncommon to have to wait for a flock of turkeys to cross the road here.
