Morning Glories?

Post by steve-in-kville »

Through recommendations from here, I planted two types of morning glories this past spring. Built a trellis. They came up really well but I thought they would have bloomed by now. I'm I being impatient?

puzzling.
these have been easy growers with lots of blooms for me, zone 5. no special soil or anything.
they like a sunny spot. :)

i once grew them over a bay window facing west. they added a lot of shade for hot summer afternoons.
and pretty flowers.

do you see any buds? they are pretty big and easy to spot.

I planted them the last 2 years. Skipped this year. Mine had a lot of flowers by midsummer. I did not use any special soil but they did base the Sun where I planted the seeds. Could it be you bought old seeds? Some people recommend soaking them before you plant them

If something grows really well, but doesn’t produce flowers, that usually means it has too much nitrogen.

I had read that. I researched this a bit and found that they will bloom 12o days after being planted which means I have another week or two. Now next year they will bloom a lot sooner as they (hopefull) will reseed themselves.

Reseeding? hmm.
The bad news (for me) is, they’ve never reseeded.
The good news (for me) is, they’ve never reseeded. i.e., they aren’t invasive. :)

They’re easy to replant. :D

Now if we could just get hair to be reseeding instead of receding.

Just a follow up.... no one in our area that has morning glories has seen any blooms yet.
