Been having a different experience. The Muddy Creek Library and Museum sent me a transcript of a talk done in PA German. They had translated it into English but wanted me to edit it. That made me shift down a few gears. The transcript was done in phonetic spelling and sometimes I had to read it out loud to get it.

Interesting content too. If you are inclined to enjoy history, and get to PA, it would be worthwhile stopping in. I saw their collection 30 years or so ago, while Amos Hoover still had it, but I'm sure it has grown vastly since then.

It sounds like a fun project, Lester

That's interesting, Lester. Several months ago I was asked by a local Regional Police department if I would consider translating their 'Police Relations With the Public' handbook into the local Pennsylvania German dialect. They want to make the handbook available in at least most of the non-English languages used in the region hoping to make a better contact with the ESL people.
I declined for several reasons. I told them there is no official written form of Pennsylvania German, and that such an attempt would have to involve phonetic spelling which would probably be harder to read than English. I told them that the Pennsylvania German people in the area are quite adept at reading English and that in cases where Pennsylvania German articles are 'written' it is almost always as an expression of humor.
I told them, however, that if they wanted to continue with this I could put them in contact with a couple of other people to see if they would consider it.
I also made a few suggestions of other actions that might help them make a better contact with the local community.
As far as I know they did not pursue the language thing any further.

Could almost look like it. But it was a sunset, not a sunrise. Christ will come from the east, won't he? 8-)

Will he? What does scripture say?
