Where to get button down shirts

Post by nett »

I'd like to stop wearing t-shirts out of the house, and would like to wear short-sleeve buttons downs casually in the summer, and long sleeve for all other occasions.

The problem is most shirts don't fit me, I'm 6' 2", with a long torso, and pretty muscular. My shirts routinely come untucked, unless they're way too big and billow.

Ideally we'd make our own clothes, but we're not even close to there yet. So I'd like to find a sustainable source of high qualilty shirts that actually fit!

Anyone have any ideas?

They make extra long button down shirts for tall men. Haven't bought from them in years, but their quality was always a notch-above.

If you want solid color fabrics, it will be more difficult, as that often puts you into dress shirts. Dress shirt sleeves can be cut off for short sleeves, but the upper arm area is generally much looser on dress shirts than on 'normal' shirts. I'm not that tall (only 5'10 1/2"), but I do also have a long torso, and I know what you mean about shirts that always want to come out. (I read someplace where someone was saying that tucked in shirts were not 'decent', but even the public school I attended required that shirts be tucked in. So it looks a bit sloppy to me to not have it tucked in.)
Anyway, I get most of my shirts at the second-hand stores, but I am not out looking for solid color fabrics, either.

Unfortunately, Duluth quality seems to have gone down in the past few years. They do have lots and lots of stores all over the place now.

That I wouldn't have known. Haven't done business with them in years. I think I still get a catalog in the mail, though.

I had a shirt made for me out of linen. If money isn't a problem, hire someone to make the shirt for you.

I like Carhartt Shirts. They come in button down work shirts made of sturdy fabric. Mine last quite a while. They also come in relaxed fit or looser fit sizes. Available in solid colors too. Scroll down in the link below.

Costco if you have one nearby. Or you can order online.

They usually have inexpensive Kirkland Signature (their house brand) available in long and short sleeve depending on the season that are good quality. If not they bring in other brands.

This is what they currently have for button downs in long sleeve: https://www.costco.com/mens-dress-shirt ... utton-Down

and short sleeve: https://www.costco.com/lee-men's-short- ... 06244.html

Many more dress shirt options if you can do without the button down collar.
