I'm about the same. I haven't been west of Pittsburg.... ever.
How far East have you been? South? North?
It sounds like you have a lot of the West to discover!
Was in NYC a few times years ago (Bowery Mission). Been to DC for school trips back in the day. Furthest north was the Poconos/Jim Thorpe.
Plans are to semi-retire in seven years and travel the country promoting my book
In the past, some forum members planned meetings with members on their travels.
i enjoyed a couple of visits, their wives and i met for breakfast, good memories.
i was a bit afraid with the first visit, it all went well.
undershepherd had a goal to meet as many forum members possible IRL.
i recommend it. better carry some copies to sign along with you.
i once had a similar dream - including Maine and Nova Scotia. no limits to my dreamed journeys.

Most or all of this drama, humiliation, wasted taxpayer money could be spared -
with even modest attempt at presenting balanced facts from the start.

I've been to the Bowery Mission a few times too (in my teens with church). I remember the first time I went and the culture shock of how some people looked. I don't think I will ever forget my first time on the bus there when we were almost there I saw a woman leading a guy on a dog chain and collar. It was such a culture shock.

I think the folks at the mission were equally fascinated with our country/rural lifestyle: the one pastor there couldn't get over the fact that my wife's family had chickens that laid eggs. Like who heard of getting eggs from anywhere other than the grocery store!
