the heart is a machine, and machines wear out.

now, whether it is accelerated by the vaccine, i don't have an answer to that. there is certainly that possibility.
but valves wearing out, is not a new thing.
and two of the biggest symptoms are shortness of breath and fatigue.

we send a lot of folks for valve work.
many thanks.
it’s unnerving on one hand, helpful to have an idea why this last year has been so different, on the other.

the echocardiogram is scheduled for Nov 8.

from what i’m reading, if surgery is recommended, i’ll do it. it doesn’t sound like fun.
but i would be glad to feel better. (i’m not in pain.) my breath is ok, i think. i’m tired. i do what i have to, but i have to work at it.
it’s a distinct change from a year ago.
i’ve kept thinking, “i’ll rest, then do better tomorrow.” but. 365 tomorrows without doing better! i didn’t think of my heart.
so. we’ll see. if recommended, i don’t see an upside to delaying surgery. i don’t want to risk an emergency.

If I put a special oil additive in my car and its valves wore out at 50,000 miles, I would suspect the additive was no good. Young people are having heart problems. Most strangely, young women - who never normally have heart problems. The common factor is the vaccine.

For older folks, I’m not sure the vaccine is nearly as much something to worry about. We haven’t been seeing heart problems spike up incredibly amongst older folks.

Heart stuff.

The cardiologist outfitted me with a ZIO XT heart monitor yesterday, i’m to wear it for 3 days.
He prescribed a beta blocker, i guess i’ll get it today.
He ordered an EKG and MRI, after the ZIO thing. Probably next week.

Depending on results, maybe a stress test .. and .. i think another test, i can’t remember.

He thinks the beta blocker may help with my loss of endurance, i.e., not being able to walk very far, etc.
i hope so.

He was very nice, and thorough.
Unfortunately, with his mask, strong Indian accent, my not-great hearing, and new terminology for me, i’m afraid i missed a lot of what he was saying. i’m not usually bothered by accents. but, all combined, i was straining to understand.

Basically, my heart is working pretty hard and one part is not pumping efficiently. i think.
The beta blocker should slow things down which will allow more time to improve blood flow.

There could be side effects, i’ll pretend i didn’t hear that part. :P

TUMERIC
On a whim, i started taking Tumeric in October, because, “why not?” (2000mg/day) suggested on bottle: 3000.
i’ve read about it as being good for inflammation .. for a year, i’ve been bothered with joint/muscle aches when walking.

A month in, i believe it’s helped. i was expecting nothing. i believe i’m about 95+% improved. i’m sold!

This has been kind of a rough year for aches+pains. Not bad, can’t complain. but. any help will be appreciated!
Between all this ^^ maybe i’ll add a few miles to the chassis.

I just upped my game this past week and started walking every day. Didn't add the 20# vest yet, but its coming! Also started walking during my lunchtime whenever I can. My employer has a large pond in the back 40, so it makes for nice scenery. I'd love to do something before work as that always made the day go better.

I almost always walk to & from work, morning noon, and evening (including even the worst winter days, snow or ice, rain or wind). It's just about 1/4 mile for each of the 6 one-way trips. I haven't been able to walk for the last 3 weeks, due to an injury.

However, this injury to my ankle has brought out the fact that I am no longer 22, as my mind tends to tell me. (I am actually more than 3 times that.)

my heart is with you.
now i’m wondering if a weighted vest would help me out?
i’ve evidently lost my endurance for distance, it’s hurt me in the last year+.

when i saw my doctor recently, he said, “this is not you!” well. it wasn’t. maybe it is. :(

“The 15 Best Weighted Vests For Your Workouts, From Strength Training To Running”

20# sounds good! After a bit of reading, i think i’ll try 8#.
My hope is, maybe i can get more out of my 1-2 miles, now that 3-5 miles seems improbable.
i like the idea of getting more upper body exercise .. swimming was my fav exercise for years. no easy access to a pool anymore.
a weighted vest might help.

Adjust. Adjust. Adjust.
My bicycling neighbor, in his 70’s, is still out-there. The mental aspect is critical.

Babies+children are expert at not letting setbacks get them down.
How many times does a new walker stumble before achieving that FIRST step??! This perspective is valuable for all of life.
“i can’t do that” (anymore). “What can i do?!”

Some are really good at (rebounding). admirable. i’m too easily thwarted. i try to fight it.
