I rarely ever use fabric softener. I also rarely use a dryer.

I remember once I was old enough to help mom with the washing. We used a wringer washer. She also had a automatic washer which she used for the Sunday clothes & washing diapers.

Baking soda is known for neutralizing odors. i’ve used it in the garbage disposal, other things.
In laundry, doesn’t it leave a residue? i’ve never use washing soda. vinegar seems to work well with neutralizing odors.

SOAKING seems to be key in releasing dirt, soil, stains. i’m a fan.
it’s the easiest, effortless way. planning for soaking time is the hardest part. overnight is great, i sleep while soaking does the work.

MILDEW

Alcohol

i don’t often have problems with mildew.
however, because of my summer months away, heat+humidity get the best of a few items.

i discovered, hydrogen peroxide works wonders - on some items. book covers.
i’ve read, alcohol is recommended. i have not tried.

Leather gloves??

i have 2 pair suede leather gloves, black and brown, both with mildew on the surfaces.

i’m trying to find courage to spray with h. peroxide.
i’m asking myself: “what is there to lose?”

FOLDING FITTED BED SHEETS



My mother was “Master Class” at folding fitted bed sheets.

i am not.
today, i googled. there are many helpful graphics! my fav: ^^^

i have some alone time. whatever possessed me to spend it on THIS??!

i ironed pillowcases and flat sheet tops. something familiar. manageable. in attempt to soothe nerves.

when i was young, we ironed all sheets. they were white. we dedicated hours each week to ironing the family laundry.
as fabrics changed, and dryer use became normalized, less ironing. i’m still frugal with dryers. i use a dryer, strategically!

i feel i’m cheating to iron only flat sheet tops, not the whole sheets. (even now, when i rarely iron anything anymore.)
will my daughter notice?

there’s something very nice about ironed sheets and pillowcases. they seem so - civilized.
could this be the path to world peace?

Folding fitted sheets are a huge challenge.
The key to folding the fitted sheet is to ignore the outside edges of the sheet and to use the corners of the pockets as the edges, folding the excess material out of the way.

I thought I'd throw in some humor as you are the only one here who had ever referred to me in a post as 'Suds'.

To your question - I have tried various ways to fold fitted bed sheets and they never looked too folded. But when I put them on the bed real tight with a powerized mattress all the wrinkles disappear anyway. One of these days I suspect I may start the corners too tight and the powering mattress might split them in two.

I remember when I first was married and my wife would tuck the sheets under the mattress so tight I could hardly get into bed. I dislike my feet being bent by a sheet. I like my feet free and sometimes uncovered. So, I got into bed and tried with all my leg strength to kick the sheets free while holding the top of the sheet. Yep, you guessed it, I ripped the sheet right in half and we had a good laugh. Well, story time is over, good night.
