Here's a thread to talk about all things horticultural.

This Fall we helped our children plant their brassicas for winter. We also went with them to an apiary to learn more about beekeeping to help the garden with pollination.

Sounds nice. I'll be hand pollinating some next year (for purity of varieties), and I'll be planting a row of wildflower mix formulated for pollinators and beneficial.
We've got a lot of bees on our property regardless of my efforts though! Didn't get out of the 30's today and I was seeing bees buzzing about the yard

By December, here, any gardening not done will pretty much stay thataway until spring.
But, time can be spent planning and dreaming.
i always have more dreams than i can put into action.

Friday we finished mulching our strawberry plants (with straw, of course) for the winter. We have 35 rows about 500' long, so it was a big job. It took about 36 large round bales. They're heavy!

We also harvested some frozen broccoli and spinach. Both were great. Then we mulched our small rhubarb plant with leaves.

a fav-fav passage:

2 Peter 1:16
Eyewitnesses of His Majesty
15And I will make every effort to ensure that after my departure, you will be able to recall these things at all times.

16For we did not follow cleverly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

17For He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice from the Majestic Glory said to Him, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”…
Truth. Promised. - :D

Rabbits. Roses.
these little critters have broken my heart, good thing my kitchen wasn't depending on crops.
but, in 2016, even being gone over the summer, i had a small victory.
Rose Bella'roma
http://www.jacksonandperkins.com/bellar ... e/p/v1779/

it must be 3 years since i planted; each spring, early growth was nibbled away - no roses!
last year, i got out early, put a wire plant cloche over it, it grew!
i was able to enjoy 2 roses before i left for the summer.

it quickly outgrew the cloche, i sadly removed it.
but, the bunnies did not seem interested in the more mature plant! yay.
when i returned, there were 2-3 more roses, plus, the plant was tall and green.

(i wonder) if the bunnies may have helped the plant establish deeper roots in those early years?
they did not kill the plant, they "radically pruned" it!

so. we'll see about 2017. i am hopeful.
