My eggplant has started to really produce, after a poor summer. Fall carrots are looking really nice- but not quite ready to be picked. Raspberries are on their last legs but have a few branches with berries that are still developing. Grands really enjoy picking and eating them off the bushes.

I gathered 18 bushel boxes of butternut squash yesterday as frost is possible. That almost finishes the harvest. We had already gathered about 27 boxes. These will be mostly going to the food pantry and senior center in the coming months, but we'll get plenty of pumpkin pie and butternut brownies made also, plus, I hope, get some canned.

Growing things is so much fun, especially when the children can grow something for themselves.

Berlin Seeds has a pack of mixed seeds for the children. They can buy it and grow it and send in a note telling about it. They pick two winners. Its for the 12 and under crowd. Our children enjoyed planting and growing the seeds.
good idea. :D
i’ll call for a catalogue.
i found this contact info:
Berlin Seeds:

They are only about 5’-6’ tall. Not coming along very fast. Keeping them watered was a problem. Some may have died. Deer ate some of the trees. We’ll see how many I need to replace in the spring. It’s not a large area, maybe 100’x200’. I have four children who watered them.

5-6’ sounds substantial to me, esp in your dry area.
you have 1 or 2 threads on irrigation, i tried to find them, but couldn’t.

i enjoyed helping dad in the garden. and later, having helpers in our garden.

Have lettuce and spinach seed and then a few lettuce plants- for a jump start- in the ground.
Pruned blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.

Plus lots of daffodils blooming and some magnolias, our Bradford pear and forsythia. Except for the pollen, love this time of year.
