This works as a political career for a while but public favor is fickle and eventually turns. It also has problems from a policy perspective because an effective leader needs some flexibility to respond to changing conditions. Mr. Giuliani is not skilled at this.
Having experienced both pre-Guliani and post-Guliani NYC, I can say he was a very effective mayor who reversed the city itheewise turning into Detroit.

He may be commended for that, but that doesn't excuse his (or Trump's) more recent behavior towards the women who were just doing their duty and doing something they had done many times before, lawfully processing an election. Sore loser Trump decided to scapegoat them. Glad to see Giuliani being held to account for that and hoping/praying Trump is held to account as well for also participating in the attack on these ladies.

A history that looks back to a mythologized past as the country’s perfect time is a key tool of authoritarians. It allows them to characterize anyone who opposes them as an enemy of the country’s great destiny. - Heather Cox Richardson

Giuliani rode the same downward trend in crime that the rest of the country experienced in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The safest and most crime-free periods of time in New York were actually the Bloomberg and de Blasio Administrations. Although he was very good at self-promotion, that is certainly true.

So, for example, during the last year of the Giuliani Administration there were 659 murders in NYC. Last year in 2022 when crime was supposed to have been elevated, there were 413 murders in NYC or about 37% less than Giuliani's best year. This year in 2023 with 2 weeks to go in the year, NYC is at 373 which would represent a 10% drop from 2022. https://compstat.nypdonline.org/2e5c3f4 ... 5c/view/89 The lowest number in recent years was 292 which was reached in 2017 during the 3rd year of the de Blasio Administration. And that was the lowest number of murders in NYC since 1945.
