2 kinds of apologies

All of you have probably received the first kind of apologies, and I hope you have also received the second kind. It does make a difference in how we view the offenders and what likelihood there is of someone getting hurt again in the future by the same people.

Does anybody know whether courts ever use the type of apology a person gives, to decide how many sentences/penalties to give the person? Or is "an apology" all that courts ask for?

Expressions of remorse and contrition can affect sentencing. And the type of apology offered would seem to be a part of that.

They are probably even more important to parole boards in deciding whether to parole inmates at the end of their sentences.
