I can't find the reference now, but maybe someone else here can.

I was listening to some lawyers say that because the Biden impeachment inquiry was not voted on in the House it does not have legal standing according to the Office of Legal Counsel which governs what the executive branch is allowed to do. That would mean that the executive branch could not legally release more information to the committed than it could to the general public.

Sounds like a silly theory much like people who thought Pence could overturn an election.

I wonder if these lawyers were saying the same thing when Nancy Pelosi didn't hold a vote?
Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic leaders will hold off on a full House vote authorizing an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, according to multiple lawmakers and aides.

Democratic leadership sources caution, however, that the decision could be “reassessed at some point.”

The move came amid opposition from key chairmen and members of leadership, as well as a number of centrist Democrats facing tough reelection bids.

It's simply politics as usual. Doesn't surprise me at all that both sides are so hypocritical. I'm guessing we could find clips of Kevin McCarthy blasting Pelosi for not holding a vote before opening an impeachment inquiry and now he's doing the same thing.

I expect the OLC guideline is old, so the same rules should apply no matter what party's president is being investigated.

The Democrats under Pelosi actually did take a vote of the full House to initiate a formal impeachment inquiry before they began any public investigations or hearings. Look it up:

Have the Republicans, under McCarthy, held any public investigations or hearings since the inquiry was ordered?
